I can't decide if I liked or hated this book - and you can't really review a thriller without giving spoilers - but I thought some parts were predictable (I called one but then it turned out different than I thought) and I called another completely, though it still made for a good book I think 109 chapters in 418 pages was a little much - why all the chapters? I hate that. I didn't much like the side players - Kate was a **insert bad word** and Amy I found to be a bit annoying - I did like the rest though I think the book is made to make you hate people. Overall a decent ride!

Dominique Marie (7 KP) rated Women Who Run with the Wolves: Contacting the Power of the Wild Woman in Books
Nov 28, 2018 (Updated Nov 28, 2018)
This book was very interesting. You don't have to buy into the whole Jungian interpretations to enjoy it. Some of it resonated with me, and some of it didn't, but, as a literature major, I found it fascinating, and I loved the myths/stories alone. I gave it four stars because it was too repetitive at times for my liking.

The Chocolate Lady (94 KP) rated All He Ever Wanted in Books
Oct 7, 2020
A story of one man's obsession with a woman who wanted something else. Unfortunately, I found this book to be a touch too sterile for my taste, lacking in humour and devoid of the historical connections I expect to find in period fiction. You can read my full review here. https://tcl-bookreviews.com/2014/07/22/i-wanted-a-bit-more/

Lumos (380 KP) rated The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet in Books

Ok.. .I'm going to admit I was a bit bummed my book club chose this as our next read. Sci-fi books have never been my forte.. I just can't seem to understand what is going on. So many scienc-y words and characters with hard to pronounce names.. but, I was very surprised by this book. I listened to the audio book version since I had a few long drives to take. I found myself getting to my destination and sitting in the parking lot waiting for the chapter/ scene to be over. Each character is so unique. Becky Chambers designed each persona in such a beautiful way, you can't help but find yourself getting attached to them. Normally, intergalactic characters are too far out of the world for me to relate to, but I found myself very invested in these characters' backgrounds and relating to them in unexpected ways. I am very eager for our next meeting to see what everyone else got out of the book. If you are like me, and space isn't your thing, I would still recommend you push past the first few chapters. Once you get the background of the first character, I guarantee you will be hooked!

Leanne Crabtree (480 KP) rated Sweet Peril (Sweet, #2) in Books

Yeah, I really really liked this one, and even bought the last book in the trilogy before I finished it because I am that hooked on the story and in need of knowing how it's all going to end. I've found it very addictive and all my other books have gone on the backburner while I finish this series. If you haven't read it yet, you really should. Amazing!
I love all the Neph gang; Kaiden, Blake, Kopano, Marna...not too sure about Ginger yet, though.
Straight onto book 3!

Hazel (2934 KP) rated Unseen: No. 7 in Books
Jan 12, 2018
I haven't read any previous novels with these characters so didn't know any background to them but it didn't seem to matter to me as Karin was adept at shedding light on history but not too much that the story became confusing and bogged down which can happen.
I found it to be an exciting story that, unfortunately, is very plausible in this day and age (wow, I sound like my mum!) and it kept me interested throughout. The descriptions of places, people, situations, injuries, etc were vivid and, I felt, accurate enough to enable me to develop detailed pictures in my mind as I was reading which made it all the more real.
Some of my thoughts on the main characters:
Lena - I didn't like her at first but once the character started to develop I found myself on her side and defending her like she was a real person.
Sara - annoying but likeable in a strange way. She came across to me as quite a hard and unforgiving person but I think I warmed to her in the end.
Will - my favourite loved him - a very complex character that I want to know more about. A tough exterior with a very soft centre and a good heart; brave and fearless and someone you would want on your side.
There was one negative that I found and it was that I thought the chapters were way too long - I hate stopping midway through a chapter but if you only have a short amount of time to get a few pages read, you have to with this book which I found quite frustrating.
Overall though, I enjoyed it so much I will be reading more and would definitely recommend to people who love a fast paced crime thriller.

Auburn (57 KP) rated Heritage (The Grimoire Saga, #3) in Books
Apr 10, 2019
This is the third in the series and I found this one to be much more in depth emotionally than the other books. You learn Karas past and what makes her what she is today. It's a roller coaster and you are surprised by how well SM Boyce created this whole new world. If you haven't started the series by now what are you waiting for?

Ari Augustine (10 KP) rated The Place Between Breaths in Books
May 4, 2020
If you want a book that will take you on a true roller coaster ride of delirious emotions, The Place Between Breaths if for you. Told in a non-linear manner and delves into the raw complexity, horror, and grief surrounding Schizophrenia. Although all the jumping around might be off-putting to some readers, I found it intriguing - as if I were exploring the world the way a fractured mind would and I loved that, at times, I was confused. I know that's strange to say, but I enjoyed it's ambiguous tone riddled with dream and longing.
I would recommend 100%
