"When the Beatles started, I was 7—too young to understand the subtlety and the sex appeal. I didn’t get what the screaming and hysteria was about. I just thought they had good tunes. There was a moment that I realized: This is now. The ’50s seemed black-and-white in comparison. I hated Elvis Presley and all that rock’n’roll. It sounded boring."

Excessive sexy time... like really... in the middle of a war? (0 more)
I love this trilogy, but I don’t know what to think about this one, it was too slow in the beginning then too rushed at the end and there where a lot of questions unanswered. I just felt empty when I finished it.

Wow, even though I was told what to expect, I wasn't expecting anything as visceral and as raw as this book. The beginning though tough lulled me into a sense of security, I thought I knew where it was going to go - I didn't! There was a point in the middle where this became a bit of an issue, as I felt it moved around too much, but there was a reason to it. I'm not immediately going to move on to book two, not because I don't want to, but i feel I might have a nervous breakdown of I did!

I don't know if there were deliberate tributes to Jasper Fforde in this, but it seemed too much of a pale imitation of the matster of the slightly absurd slightly alternate universe. This, for me, wasn't that funny and was rather too crude. I won't be reading the rest.

"An incredible, sensual, magical, dark, twisted story. There was a point when everyone was reading this book in London and I delayed. For some reason I didn’t like the cover (embarrassing, but true), but finally the word of mouth was just too strong and I dove in, took one sniff and was blown away. It’s one of the finest books I’ve ever read."
