I was really looking forward to watching this because it has some good voices in it( Jamie Fox, Tina Fey and Phylicia Rashad) but I was disappointed. I saw it when it first came out on Disney + so I really don't remember a lot about it, just that it was confusing at the end and a bit boring. I did like Jamie Fox's character and his Mother ( Phylicia Rashad) but other than that the story was too out there for me.

"I had a friend at school that was just as obsessive about music as I was. He was a huge New Order fan. He lent me a really badly taped cassette of Script Of The Bridge. At first I thought it was too dangerously close to prog rock. Around that time, I think I'd just gone to sixth form… What was great about that was meeting people of a like mind. But the place where I came from was a typical Northern small town. I think the idea was probably dawning that there was nothing there and I didn't really belong. I was stuck in my own world with no outlet for it. I spent a lot of time just wandering around and thinking about stuff, and that was the soundtrack to it really. Pissing it down in the North on dark evenings. It sounds like rain in the north-west to me now. I dunno what's good about that."

I can honestly say that I did not enjoy this book. For me, Charles Dickens' works are all very repetitive. There's an orphan who continuously falls onto bad times, then suddenly figures things out and gets his life turned around. Everything happened too slowly and was way too drawn for me or it was important information told in passing. The chapters jump around a lot so it can get confusing temporally. There are too many characters with similar names to keep track of. Overall, I didn't enjoy this novel.

Bruce Robinson recommended The Gold Rush (1925) in Movies (curated)

"The first one is The Gold Rush, by Charlie Chaplin. It’s the apogee of his genius. I saw that film when I was 11 or 12 years old in a cinema in Ramsgate, Kensington, and there were three people in there with me. Nothing has ever made me laugh as much as that. I remember, literally — in those days they used to have a velvet kind of cover over the balcony — and I remember hanging over and laughing at the sheer f–king brilliance of the comedy in that film. The one I saw was just black-and-white, too; this was before Chaplin put a voice-over on it, which I don’t enjoy — I don’t think it serves the film well. There are certain things in there, you know — around cooking and survival and stuff — that kind of are in my soul now, as someone who tries to tell stories too."

"When you leave Woody Harrelson in the helicopter, and he’s there freaking out? I cry every time I see that. I love that movie. And it always made me look at [Robert] Redford differently, too, like he was a bit of a villain. I love Bob. But that movie, I love that movie. Adrian [Lyne]! I loved Indecent Proposal."
