Chrissie-ann (78 KP) rated The Ritual (2017) in Movies
Jul 16, 2018
I kind of guessed the way this film would go by way of the title, but I was pleasantly surprised. I found myself hooked from the beginning and unsure about what was happening and why. I thought the cast were strong and felt the emotions coming from them. There isn't too much explanation about the situation which draws away from the actual story and tension builds throughout.

I picked this up looking for a romantic suspense novel, sadly it was lacking in both aspects. I did find it an entertaining book that was a nice, light escape, but I really was looking for more suspense. This was more light mystery, and even that was easy to figure out early on. I think Ms. Stuart took too much time in the beginning with Coltrane and Jilly, and I never felt they liked each other much, let alone loved each other by the end. I liked them well enough but wished for more romance with less arguing and lust. I never completely got the point of the ghosts but thought it was cute all the same. Too bad there wasn't another book with Rachel-Ann and Rico, that sounds like it would have made for a good book. As I said before, a nice and easy read, but nothing I'd remember too much down the road.

Life is too short to finish books I just can't get into. I really wanted to love this book. I love the concept but unfortunately this book just fell flat. I was hoping for more analysis and less essay opinion. I truly wish that there was more to this book than short opinion pieces.
I got 11% through this book and I have to throw in the towel. I'm just not feeling it.

Alison Pink (7 KP) rated My Blood Approves (My Blood Approves, #1) in Books

This book was okay. It felt like it was trying to be "Twilight" too much for me to give it any higher score than 3 stars. There were lots of type-os which drive me CRAZY! However it was good enough that I am currently reading the 2nd book in the series.
graveyardgremlin (7194 KP) rated Stolen (Women of the Otherworld, #2) in Books

Stolen was violent, bloody, twisted, and I loved it! Elena is a great character and the book is written with an easy style and some dry humor thrown in for good measure. Sure, it was slow-starting and there were some parts that were drawn out too long, but I enjoyed the ride when it picked up. I can't wait to get to Kelley Armstrong's other books.

I got halfway through Know your Beholder before I quit. I still wouldn’t be able to tell you what it was about. It’s really too bad, to. I only had one problem with it.
It was like a lot of things happened, but nothing actually happened. There was no plot, just a bunch of events strung together with lyric, hilarious, over thesaurus-ized sentences. The writing itself was great and it was what kept me listening past the first track, but when I was halfway through and I still wasn’t sure what was going on, and I didn’t like the main character any more than I did when it started, I opted to spend my time on something else.

I enjoyed this book. The story is fresh, new and exciting. I like the idea of the unit they are working for - but really the thought of it scares me slightly!
Very well written and a real page turner - couldn't wait to finish it. Only criticism would be there was a lot of focus put on the fact the lead character was returning to work after having a baby - I felt this was mentioned too much / too often and really didn't need to be enforced quite so often.
Five Star recommendation!

Caffeinated Fae (464 KP) rated Mera: Tidebreaker in Books

Meh. Not something I would recommend
I received an email with the ARC information for this book a few days after I finished watching Aquaman, naturally, I had to jump at the chance to read this. This graphic novel has some awesome graphics and the plot line was fun to see through Mera’s eyes. Unfortunately, the beginning of the graphic novel was difficult to follow and once you got over that hump, it was way too predictable. I wish that there was something that would set this book apart but I just wasn’t impressed.
