Bostonian916 (449 KP) rated The Catcher Was a Spy (2018) in Movies

Very interesting (and excellent) cast. Paul Rudd, Paul Giamatti, Jeff Daniels, and Guy Pierce all step outside their general wheel houses and bring together a wonderful performance about a true chain of events that unfolded during World War II.
As a Red Sox fan I had a general idea of the story surrounding Moe Berg, but I was enlightened about several different elements of the story by the movie and even more so I was driven to do additional research and found out even more information about this unheralded American Hero.
If you're looking for an action romp this isn't where you'll find it. This is a movie that will capture your imagination and you will almost forget that this is all based on a true story.

TravelersWife4Life (31 KP) rated The Crownless King in Books

This book was interesting and like nothing like what I thought it would be from the description. I have not read the first book in the series and it did not affect my enjoyment of this book. However, I will be going back to read it as I want to know how the story started.
The Crownless King captured my imagination, and I had a hard time putting the book down. I thought the characters were strong and courageous and they had some twists that I did not see coming. So that made it even better for me. I also enjoyed the diverse character backgrounds and the relationships that developed between certain characters (I have no idea how to say more without giving spoilers!

Tom Turner (388 KP) rated The Houdini Box in Books

Wow, was surprised by the power of this book. I will admit I haven't read any of his others, which I'm guessing will be more satisfying judging by others reactions, but I am do glad I read this first. Of course the artwork is sublime, but the story, for me at least captured my imagination. I will say the ending had left me thinking, I'm not certain this is a bad thing or a very good thing. I think if I understood what the message here was trying to convey by ending it the way he did then I would appreciate it more, but I'm a little befuddled by it if I am to be honest. Someone needs too adapt this for the screen!
ClareR (5726 KP) rated The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet in Books

The start of one of my favourite trilogies
The imagination involved in writing this book is phenomenal. Chambers has built whole worlds around each of her characters in this, from the AI who essentially runs the ship, to the human who is escaping her old life, via reptile-like ships captains. There’s excitement, grief, love and everything in between. And I loved it. It held my attention, and I didn’t want it to end. The wait for the second book was a long time, let me tell you! It’s one of those books where I finished it and wished that I could immediately pick it up and read it for the first time again.
So yes, I really rather liked it!

Leanne Crabtree (480 KP) rated Brother in Books

I seem to have a thing for Yaoi--Boys Love--and since I like my M/M Romances, why wouldn't I?
This was kinda cute once it got going. I wasn't sure what it was going to be like but once I started it, I fell into it.
To me, it read like a typical M/M Romance--a friends to lovers sort of thing, only they were step brothers.
I just have to admit I like to see it happen, because I don't always have the best imagination with books, I don't picture my characters in my head like others do. So having the comic strip helps me a lot.
Off to start Brother 2 to see if it's as good as this one.

Jacob Wilding (39 KP) rated We're Alive - A "Zombie" Story of Survival in Podcasts
May 10, 2020
I found this podcast years ago and it didn't have all the episodes then. But now I just finished it and it was amazing! There was a good amount of drama to action. The story keeps you guessing about what's going to happen next. The story does a good job at making you hate and love characters. Also the voice actors are amazing!
Only struggle I had was near the end conversations felt rushed sometimes and at other times it was hard to hear what other people were saying. Overall an amazing podcast for the zombie/apocalypse enthusiast.
