I don't know if it was intentional, but I did find that as I was reading I felt some similarities between this and the Lord of the Rings, the quest to save things as it is. As I read further through there were a lot more differences and I felt it was finally on its own path and able to tell its tale.

One of the things I did find annoying was the repetitiveness of some of the sentences, I know it was possibly done for effect but it seemed to have no relevance or impact on the story.

When the story was in its own flow I was captured and enjoyed the adventure that I was taken on and the mystical things that were involved. Apart from my grievance above, I did find that it was very well written.

Give it a chance.

Leo is a highly regarded businesswoman that has fought tooth and nail for what she has. She has done things she's not proud of to protect the ones she loves, her mother - who is in a maximum security prison - ends up in a coma through an overdose of an illegal substance. It's up to Leo and the few people she trusts to get to the bottom of what happened.

This book is not for the faint-hearted there is quite a bit of dark stuff in here that could be a trigger for some people as there is abuse mentioned. I did enjoy the story once I got into it. I just found it a bit backward and forward to start with but then you travel farther into the story and it gets easier to comprehend.

A recommendation by me.

good enough for me to want to continue with the series.
Independent reviewer for Book Sirens, I was gofted my copy of this book.

This is the first book in the Beyond The Mist series, and as such lays down the ground work, the background into these vampires and how they came to be.

I enjoyed it, I did. It didn't blow me away, but it's left me intrigued enough to want to continue on with the series.

Not least because there are a whole host of characters we meet here who now need their stories. Korinna, especially and Roman, I think, needs a happy ever after. Andrei's brothers too.

Some smexy times, some violence, some darker themes. Vampires who shift! I liked that, it's different.

All in all, a good read, for me, but not a great one.

so, 3 stars, but I will continue with the series.
