HEED the triggers, I have none but this really pushed my boundaries!
Independent reviewer for Archaeolibrarian, I was gifted my copy of this book.
This is book 2in the Ambrosia series, and I have not read book one. I want to, though. Oh how I WANT!
I wasn't sure how this was gonna go, since it came with a stern, VERY STERN warning to note the triggers. I, after reading, STRESS that point.
Rowan is a bully and Aldred the God of Justice and Retribution. Who better to meek out the punishment the boy deserves. But something is off with Rowan and it takes a bit of time for Aldred to get deep into Rowan's reasons for being a bully. What he discovers shocks him, and makes him oddly protective of the boy. There is also the issue of the god going around, giving ambrosia out to humans, which is deadly if not managed correctly.
So, triggers:
Explicit smex: Oh yes, once Aldred decides he's keeping Rowan, the God loves his boy, and he loves him HARD.
Torture: Aldred, in the beginning, is brutal to Rowan. It was painful, reading about it, and it goes way darker than anything I've read before. I will admit, I came close to stopping, but something begged me to continue and I am so glad I did.
Mention of past abuse: Rowan's reasons for being a bully aren't immediately clear, and it does take some time for Aldred to get to the bottom of them.
Sexual assault: If it's the scen I'm thinking of, it's not a full on page assault, just the threat is there, and but for a kitty cat, there would have been.
It's a very different read than my usual fare, and I'm not tagging it as romance, because, let's be honest, I'm not sure Aldred could love in the hearts and flowers sense, but he cares, DEEPLY for Rowan, and I think, in time, his hearts and flowers will come.
Told from both Rowan and Aldred's point of view, this book is powerful in it's intensity; dark in it's violence; and in the end, the reason's for Rowan being a bully is paid back a hundred fold.
I've had a look, and can only see two books by this author name, and I question that! Why?? Cos if this is book 2 by this author, what is Lucie Fleury gonna be like at book 4, 6 or ten?? Sign me up, mate, I'm-a following this author!

West really puts your emotions through the wringer!

There are 2 things I love most about reviewing: finding new to me authors with extensive back lists, and finding brand NEW authors, who smash it out the park. THIS book falls in the latter category.
I fell into this book, and did not come up for air for better part of 3 hours! I didn't move, eat or drink, I was that engrossed in this.
Finn is a soldier, modified to be the perfect assassin. A chance meeting with Kathleen, an undercover cop who tries to save his intended target, and Finn begins to question everything. When Kathleen then becomes a target, Finn disobeys a direct order for the first time.
What I loved about this, was Finn really can't see what has been done to him, until Kathleen points it out. Oh he KNOWS he's been modified, and can be 'reset' at any time, but he doesn't really SEE, you know? Kathleen makes him SEE, makes him wonder about who he was before, about FINN, rather than The Hound, his handle.
There are multi layers to this, and I loved that. I was kept on my toes right from the start and right through the book, that didn't let up.
It's dark, yes. On page assassinations, and violence, but it was needed for the bigger picture to be clear. Although, I'm sure there is a MUCH bigger picture that fully isn't clear yet!
Once Finn started to remember, I loved that he let himself go with Kathleen. He fully gave himself to Kathleen and took what she offered him and I cheered for them at that point.
THEN!! West does what she does and I cried, cos I wasn't sure that Finn could come back from that. He does, and I cheered again. But West puts your emotions through a wringer!!
I only really have a niggle, and it is a niggle cos I'm greedy like that! I would have liked a bit more information about what was done to Finn. We get that he is put through some vigarous mind washing, and genetic modifications, and we get all that but I wanted it in more detail. I wanted to go through that with Finn. Maybe I'm kinda twisted but I wanted to feel his pain, to fully appreciate what he's been through.
Apollo is another soldier who pops up here. I am assuming he will be next and I really hope I get to read it!

Connor wanted to give Forest the family he never had.

This is book 8 in the Sinners Gin series. I would STRONGLY recommend you at least read Tequila Mockingbird (book 3 in the series) before this one. That book is how Connor and Forest came to be. The whole darn series is amazing, though, and staring at the beginning wouldn't be a bad thing :-)
Connor is a SWAT team leader and comes across Tate in a raid. The kid has had a hard life, and the name on his birth certificate is gonna cause problems. But Tate needs a home, and Connor and Forest want to give him that. Connor wants to give Forest the family he never had. They just gotta battle the courts first.
I didn't see this book coming at me in the way it did, but it absolutely came at the way it should have, you know? Nothing will ever be easy for Forest and Connor, and adding Tate to their family was no exception. But they have a huge support system in Connor's family and Forest's ever growing band family, even if some of Miki's advice is a little sketchy!
It's deeply emotional, with the feeling raging through both Connor and Forest about what to do, will they be enough, will they be allowed to bring this little boy into their family. Made me cry a time or two. I loved it.
I loved that everyone pops up, or is mentioned. It was great to catch up with the Morgan clan and all their add-ins. Especially as I thought that book 7 was going to be the last one! Are there more planned, I don't know, nor do I care, but I will read them as and when they appear.
It's been a long while since I read a Rhys Ford book, and by golly I missed her work. It took me a hot minute to get into her way with words and then I lost myself in the madness that is the Morgan clan and the Crossroads Gin guys.
OH! And the epilogue! Any chance of a cheeky short about Dude and Gaige?? That'll be fun!
But I'm left with a question that played on my mind the whole way through. As I was READING this, I heard Tristan James in my ear. The voices weren't quite right, but James' reading voice was there. Will he be narrating it, at some point?? I need him to!
So, thank you, Ms Ford, for bringing us back to these wonderful people one more time. I really do appreciate the time it took!

Tim is a live wire and he likes to sing!

Did you ever read a book, and think "What the ever loving heck did I just read??" (only, you know, more sweary words than some review sites will allow!) Well, this is such a book!
Max moves to Valentine Growville with his odd little pride and immediately feels at home. Meeting Tim, his mate, knocked him for six. I mean, Max is an Alpha lion and Tim is. . .well . .Tim is rhubarb. A rhubarb omega. Can they make this work?
It's so much fun, it really is and I laughed a lot, A LOT reading this book and I rarely react out loud when reading, (listening is a whole 'nother matter, though!)
Max is an Alpha of a pride of lions, bulls, llamas and other things that I forget already but they all have a love of rhubarb. Moving to Growville was a necessity, since they got hounded out their last pride. Tim is.. . . excitable! He really is a bit of a live-wire and he likes to sing. Especially once he realises he is Max' mate and Max can hear him in his head. Singing becomes the easiest way to woo Max and I have to admit, I found myself singing along with those songs that Tim sang, but changed some words for to make it fit better for him and Max.
It's steamy . . but in a kinda weird way. The way rhubarb mate is a little offputting, I will admit, but now I know what to expect, I'll be better prepared.
It is a lot of fun, it really is, right up to the point where things go wrong for Tim, but if he had just talked to Max, it could all have been avoided.
And also the point where the real monsters come to town. But that was not explained, and you have to piece the clues already thrown at you to figure out who they are. I'm fairly certain, but with Sayle at the helm, one can never be too sure!
I loved the references to fingerlings!
I love Sayle, you know I do, and I've read some Brown before, with 4 and 5 star reads from her on my shelves. How they came up with this idea, I have no clue, but it really was a fun read! The setting is set nicely for book two, and I see now whay the whole of Max' pride love rhubarb!
Will it win any literary awards? Nope, but I don't care cos I thoruoghly enjoyed it!

BRATVA'S INTERN is the first in the Bratva's Undoing series and the first of two that has Maxim and Wren as the main characters.
So, firstly, as you may have gathered from the title, this has to do with the Russian mob. Maxim travelled to America when he was young and built up from there. Wren is a (in his own words) completely average and unremarkable student, who suffered the disappearance of his father when he was twelve. He doesn't mention his mother much, so I'm not sure if she's still alive or not. Anyway, these two meet in a coffee shop, and it all goes from there, but I won't say too much as I don't want to give any spoilers.
This was a one-sitting read for me. I simply couldn't put it down once I'd started it. The back-and-forth between them, the confusion, the jealousy, the 'what the hell is going on here?' moments; they all add up to a fantastic story. Maxim is possessive of Wren and makes no bones about telling him, which is just what Wren needs to hear. I loved how Wren showed his backbone to stick up for others, and yet failed to stand up for himself. I shouted out when Maxim helped give him more confidence, and the backing and support Wren hasn't had for far too many years. Maxim tries to keep Wren out of it for the most part, but Wren is a stubborn and independent man who just didn't see the danger (because he's been kept out of it!) until it was too late.
I loved the ending of this book. It ties some things up nicely, giving a HFN ending for Maxim and Wren, while leaving me with answers I still need! What happened to Wren's dad? What is going on with Archie? Who applied on Wren's behalf for the internship?
Honestly, I loved Maxim and Wren so much. They are ably supported by other characters, some of whom I adored (Nik, Jess, Darius), and some of whom gave me an itchy feeling, where it feels as though more is going on, but I won't know until the author shares. And, no, I don't need to name them because anyone who's read the book knows d@mn well who I'm on about!
Absolutely brilliant and HIGHLY RECOMMENDED by me. I can't wait for the second book in this series!

I liked that Ziggy was a perfect match for Silas' desires.

This is book 4 in the Divergent Omegaverse series, and I recommend that you read books 1-3 first. Not strictly necessary, but you will get more of this group of men and the world they live in.
Silas didn't want to return home, but his parents called 8 Starling brothers to them and dropped a bombshell: They were retiring and the company was to be run by the brothers. So, he goes to his happy place to forget for a while. Meeting the snake shifter rocked his world, but finding the same shifter in his office as his new PA? Silas isn't sure he can manage to keep his hands to himself. Ziggy offers an alternative, since he is equally smitten with Silas. Then the emotional past comes back to Silas and he hurts Ziggy, badly. Can he get Ziggy to give him a second chance?
I loved Silas and Ziggy, I really did but not so much their story and *insert wailing* I don't know why!
So, here's what I did like.
I liked that both Silas and Ziggy found themselves rocked by the encounter at Hidden Desires. I liked that they both found themselves wanting to repeat that. I liked that Ziggy was a perfect match for Silas' desires.
I did not like what happened to Sials when he was a child. I liked that it bought Booker into the family though. But Silas is still suffering the effects of that attack and it's this that makes him mess up, big time, with Ziggy.
I liked that Ziggy, while hurt and trying to move on, really cannot. I do love that Ziggy was able to let Silas explain his actions and the reasons why he acted the way he did. Once Ziggy gets the full picture, he is willing to let Silas back in, IF he remembers to use his words next time!
I loved that we visited the Darling Ranch and met Cass (Unbar The Barred) for the first time, along with a few other characters who piqued my interest. So much so, I saw pairings that were not there and I'm not sure if I'm disappointed with myself, or excited about those correct pairings!
There is some overlap with books 2 and 3, and some fall out from that visit to the factory. I hope those omegas get their HEA, cos they really need it!
Can't quite figure out what's different to the other books, but that;s Ms Sayle for you! She properly messes with my book brain!

loved that neither saw the past of the other as a problem.

This is my review, and I am going to be honest, ok?
In the beginning, I hated this book. It was making no sense, Oliver and Peter had a say but also a third person and I couldn't see why this other person had a say for such a long time. Worse still, the third person kept talking about "him" and a name was not used and I was getting frustrated so bad! I really considered dumping this book, I was that cross with it.
And then! I have absolutely no idea what happened, but it kept me reading and then suddenly everything made perfect sense and I actually found this a very good read in the end.
I hated (capital letters, underlined, italics and bold) absolutely hated what they did on that game show. The person in charge was a b!tch of the highest order, and just wanted ratings, she wasn't at all bothered what they did to people. Just gotta get that in! The fact that this came with a Married at First Sight style game show tag, makes me think about that show (cos I've watched it, don't judge me!) and what happens in the background on that one.
But I loved that both Peter and Oliver managed to walk away at the very right time for them both.
Opposites really do attract, and Oliver and Peter were polar opposites. I loved that neither saw the past of the other as a problem, once they actually talked about things away from the dating show. Their respective history doesn't all come out in one go and I loved being able to catch my breath before the next bit was thrown at me.
And there were some corkers thrown at me! Peter's marriage and how that worked, was one. Much of Oliver's past comes out in the book, though.
And that third person's mysterious he?? I got that so very wrong! But I loved the way it all came together, I really did.
This is the first book I've read of Ms Soames and now I know how she likes to mess things up in my head, I might venture into her world again. OH, and before I go, this book is billed as book 4 in the Square Mile Rogues series and a quick look at books one and two (cos I can't find book 3!) shows me that this can be read as a stand alone to those books. I don't think any of those main characters pop up here.
Because it took me a while to start to enjoy, . . .

This is my review, and I am going to be honest, ok?
In the beginning, I hated this book. It was making no sense, Oliver and Peter had a say but also a third person and I couldn't see why this other person had a say for such a long time. Worse still, the third person kept talking about "him" and a name was not used and I was getting frustrated so bad! I really considered dumping this book, I was that cross with it.
And then! I have absolutely no idea what happened, but it kept me reading and then suddenly everything made perfect sense and I actually found this a very good read in the end.

This is book 3 in the Hockey Ever After series, and I am reading it after I read book 4. They can all read as a stand alone, the characters from previous books do pop up, but you don't need to haveread those to fully enjoy this book.
And I bloody LOVED this book! It is absolutely on a par with book 2, that got 5 stars from me, but for a very different reason. That book was very emotional, heavy on the angst scale. THIS one? Opposite end of the scale, low on the angst. Emotional, still, but different.
Max and Grady has chemistry on the ice, just the sort that the media have billed it as hatred. Grady doesn't hate Max, Max breaking Grady's arm years previously really was an accident. But when a hookup who Max thinks is a catfish usingGrady's picture turns out to be Grady, that attraction goes into overdrive. And from that very first time, both men were hooked. But they play for rival teams, can it really work when one or both could be traded and moved at a moments notice?
I loved this, I really did!
Max and Grady are perfect for each other, each with their quirks and faults that compliment the others and I fell in love with these guys right from the start.
The chemistry is powerful, and plays a huge part all the way through the book. But I found this one was a bit more fade to grey, than full on page smexy times, and I think for THESE two, it was perfect.
The hockey match descriptions, while a lot, I found I enjoyed then more because of the interaction between Max and Grady when they were on ice together. Even when they played other teams, I didn't feel overwhelmed by the technical stuff. I still have no clue how it works, but having been to an ice hockey match here in the UK, I can appreciate the SPEED these matches are played at!
The only real angst, I think, was when Grady got traded. He reacted badly to something someone said, and instead of reaching out to Max, Max bore the brunt of Grady's anger...? No, he wasn't angry, he was HURT. But Grady does redeem himself, quite wonderfully.
I have already read the short that comes after this, and I'm finding it really REALLY hard not to write in here, what happens there. So I will leave this one as this:
