Debbiereadsbook (1647 KP) rated A Job Well Done in Books
Dec 22, 2025
Alex is a hit man, sent to eliminate a witness for a crime lord. But meeting Bryce makes Alex question everything. Then the pair of them have a target on their backs, and neither man will walk away unscathed.
I liked this, I liked this A LOT.
It's a little bit steamy, a little bit emotional, full of drama, and intrigue, danger and some funny moments too.
I liked that Bryce didn't really question his attraction to Alex, only the timing. Bryce had not come out as bi, and had not done anything with another man either, and his attraction and growing feelings for Alex were solid and he wasn't questioning them too closely. The situation isn't ideal, though!
I liked the way the story flowed, and I loved that both men had a voice.
I liked how this author tells her tales. I can only see one other, a much older book, than this, so I'm not sure how many books this author has written. It's clear she has skill and I would like to read something else. I would LOVE to read books about Alex' brothers, Michael, Luke and Abe and Bryce's brother, Clay. They all play a part here, even minor, but Abe and Clay piqued my interest!
However.
I did find that there were quite a few points that names were not used in the correct manner. For example, at one point, Bryce is speaking, and he says "Look, Bryce, about that . . " and another point, Alex looks into the water, but can see no sign of Alex. Minor points, but enough to make them stand out and for me to notice them, and make the comment about them.
I did enjoy it, though, apart from this point. It was a relatively easy read, that hit quite a few positive buttons.

Hazel (2934 KP) rated Medea's Curse (Natalie King, Forensic Psychiatrist, #1) in Books
Jan 12, 2018
I found this a really difficult book to review because on the one hand, the story was captivating and interesting despite it being about some pretty despicable crimes (infanticide, child and domestic abuse, stalking and violence) but on the other, the writing style made it really, really hard to read which spoiled it for me in a big way. There are a lot of characters and the story jumps around a bit; I normally donÂ’t mind this if thereÂ’s a thread which connects them all but in this novel, there were different threads that crossed but werenÂ’t necessarily linked so this made it difficult for me to keep track. I also have an issue with the main character, Natalie King. Again, sheÂ’s difficult to critique. On the one hand sheÂ’s a very strong, independent woman but on the other, I found her to be extremely unlikeable and I wasnÂ’t able to warm to her at all.
Having said all that, itÂ’s very clear that the author knows her stuff and despite the difficulties I had in reading this particular book, I would be tempted to read another written by her.

Debbiereadsbook (1647 KP) rated Best Lesbian Erotica: From Sweet to Spicy in Books
May 28, 2018
These stories are only short, 9 stories across 164 pages, but they are so delicious!
I can't say there was a stand out MOST favourite, because they are all really good. Very well written, in a variety of tenses, in the first and third, from lots of different characters. There is no connection between the stories, save the same author and they are lesbian erotica.
Some are really sweet, some more hard core. Some are just about the sex, and some have a more romantic feel to them.
I read them all, which for a box set, is unusual for me!
But there was one that stood out as my LEAST favourite. It's written from the main character's point of view in the first person. But when she talks about her partner, she uses YOU. So it's written using the second person. I find it a really difficult way to read a book, sorry! It doesn't affect my rating, but I felt the need to mention it, and you know I'm all about the feelings!
Apart from that one, they are all really good. I find myself wanting to read more by Ms Reston, something longer, with more pages to lose myself into!
Having had a run of male/male romances, this landed right in the queue at just the right time!

*insert sigh*
*insert another sigh*
I wanted to love, to even LIKE this book but I struggled, to be honest.
Mostly, because of two things.
Only Sasha has a say, and she grated on me, she really did. I can't say WHY, and I'm more annoyed that I cannot voice WHY she got my back up and got on my nerves, but she did. And because Caleb isn't given a voice, I very nearly dumped it, because she drove me nuts at points!
AND
First person/present tense. Even if caleb had been given a voice, with the book written this way, I would have enjoyed it a bit more, I think.
You could see the "situation" developing at the hospital, with the other nurse, coming at ay like a train wreck, and you can't stop, but it is nice for everything to be laid out for you once in a while. There were SOME surprises though, so i enjoyed that.
I'm sorry, a short review, but I really am struggling to make sense.
I finished it, though, and I promised myself that I would give a book 3 stars if I finished it, even if I didn't really like so.
Will I read other books in the series? Probably not, no. By this author? I'll give Ms Smith another try, certainly.
