This one feels just a bit throwback at first, with the analog-sounding synth on 8th-note repeat, and the guitar reverb has that little hint of Miami Vice. But then the baritone vocal hits, and then the alto harmony, and the whole song starts feeling warm and blanket-like, with a slightly muted band sound tucked under a wooly delay-reverb.

By the end: the hook is etched into your brain, the vocals feel like the pondering sound of your own inner vision, and the drums feel underwater. This song is a simple, infectious melody, delivered with impeccably groomed vocals, and a smooth late-night catharsis.

"I don’t always love Parajanov’s roaming camera in this movie, but he settled down from Color of Pomegranates onwards. Parajanov’s love for the folk culture is quite infectious. The way that he loves everything on screen, I relate. And the winter mummers are so mysterious. He makes this Hutsul culture come alive and it’s so exotic. Now I know a lot about Carpathian culture and Slavic folklore so the movie doesn’t have a lot of mystery to me anymore. But the first time I saw these images that I couldn’t understand, I was completely conquered because he so clearly understood them [and] they were infused with some kind of meaning that just felt essential to me."

I think most people would agree that the MCU has been on a decline ever since Endgame.

(Despite one or two good entries since).

If so, IMO they've just hit a new low.

It probably doesn't help that you're almost required to do a lot of 'homework' (movies and TV series that introduce the key characters) prior to watching this (I have), with that knowledge all but assumed by Marvel and with no real fill-in given for those who haven't.

It's not all bad, though, Iman Vellani is infectious as Kamala Khan fan-girling out over Captain Marvel, while the mid credit tease is probably one of the best since the original from 2008s Iron Man.
