This was a look at our British History which was not only interesting but also amusing. The little comments from the author made me laugh at times as well as the little stories that aren’t well known from our history.
I loved the names of the chapters as they really did sum up the information in the chapter both brilliantly and amusingly.
This is definitely a book that you can dip in and out of and one that I would recommend to anyone who is interested in the history of Britain, even if you already think that you know a lot about it.
I would rate it 9 stars as sometimes I got a bit confused as some of the chapters in between the main timeline ones jumped about so sometimes I would think that I was further along in history than I was (for example I thought something happened around the industrial revolution but it became clear that it was actually around the time of Elizabeth I) but other than this, I thoroughly enjoyed it and loved the fact that over the busiest time of year I could just dip in and out of it and not lose the information that I had already read.
Arran Lomas has renewed the love I already had for history with this book!

So Totally Awesome
At this point I've read this book four times and can see myself reading it another ten times and I would still find it such a breath of fresh air.

The plot is interesting and fun and honestly you gets so invested in the story and it wonderful characters that it's almost impossible to put the book down.

On top of all the '80 nostalgia you have a truly wonderful and heartfelt story where you can't help with root for the underdog Wade throught the whole thing.

I was given this book by a high school friend who is related to the author. I love history and disasters so this book was right up my alley. It was well researched and written, as well as filled with information. As a non mariner some of the language was a bit over my head but I could follow it in context. I could almost put myself on the storm swept beaches with the rescuers, perhaps growing up on the Jersey Shore had something to do with that. Anyone who likes maritime history or history of the Jersey Shore should put this one on their list.

One of the most life-changing books I've read
George Orwell's terrifying dystopian novel is one of those books that has gone down as the all-time top 100 books to read. It explores the idea of "double-think" not too dissimilar to what we currently call the "Post-Truth" era. Written in 1948, Orwell envisioned a world ruled by the Soviet Union in which all information was distorted and monitored to the point that thoughts were also exposed. It is terrifying beyond belief, as the main character Winston Smith attempts to explore his own mind not before facing the infamous Room 101. A really important read for our time.

This series was great and I really hope they do more because I need more.
The story lines within each episode were fun and thrilling and left you wanting to watch the next one.

Each individual episode progressed the story along nicely although you have to really watch to follow it sometimes, as one missed bit of information can leave you confused.
I loved how you slowly learnt more and more about each character and what their own personal stories and abilities are.
Highly recommend this series and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
