David McK (3233 KP) rated Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation (2015) in Movies
Dec 10, 2019 (Updated Sep 25, 2022)
"Your mission, should you choose to accept it …"
Tom Cruise's 5th outing as IMF (no, not the International Monetary Fund) agent Ethan Hunt, with the star risking life and limb in a film series that, improbably, each seems to be better than the last (with, maybe, a slight blip for M:I 2).
Disavowed by a government oversight agency, Hunt is on the track of a mysterious anti-IMF organisation known only as The Syndicate (with that organisation previously hinted at in earlier movies) and first encountering Ilsa Faust, eventually culminating in a show-down in London.
Well worth a watch.

Matthew Krueger (10051 KP) rated The Rescuers (1977) in Movies
Jan 3, 2020
The Rescuers to the Rescue.
The Plot: Bernard (Bob Newhart) and Miss Bianca (Eva Gabor), two New York City mice, are members of the Rescue Aid Society, an international team that operates beneath the United Nations and comes to the aid of those in need. After receiving word that Penny (Michelle Stacy), a young orphan, has been abducted by Madame Medusa (Geraldine Page), an evil woman seeking a precious diamond, the two set out to bring her back home, with help from other animal friends.
It has adventure, drama, comedy, love, a percious diamond, a evil villian and more.
A classic movie from disney.

Awix (3310 KP) rated La Ley del Deseo (Law of Desire) (1987) in Movies
Apr 2, 2020 (Updated Apr 2, 2020)
Almodovar's sixth movie is the one that brought him properly to international attention, but it's clear that his distinctive style was already well-developed by this point: there is the same skilful combination of suspense-movie tropes with sometimes-outrageous melodrama, and a sense of narrative playfulness.
Very strong performances from Antonio Banderas and Carmen Maura in particular, although the script seems to lack some of the deftness and confidence Almodovar would show in later movies - the shift from relationship drama to thriller isn't quite as well handled as one could hope for, and some elements of the story really do strain credibility. Nevertheless, an accomplished and engaging movie.

Lenard (726 KP) rated No. 7 Cherry Lane (2021) in Movies
Feb 20, 2021
The movie is a lot to unpack. It is a love letter to international film. Madame Simone Signoret's films are screened and discussed throughout. The films serve as a guide to the various relationships within the film. No. 7 Cherry Lane deals with the 1967 student uprising and the aftereffects of the Chinese Civil War as Mrs. Lu is a Taiwanese refugee in Hong Kong. The animation is static, either the cels were shot at 48 fps or cels took up multiple frames to give a slow motion effect to all the action. The film is also comparable to Soul since both deal with life and falling leaves.

David McK (3233 KP) rated Men in Black International (2019) in Movies
May 9, 2021
Fourth entry in the Men in Black series, reuniting Thor: Ragnoraknstars Tessa Thompson and Chris Hemsworth as agents of the MiB organisation.
And, unfortunately - and despite their best efforts - neither actors are able to bring the same sense of fun and camaraderie as in that earlier Thor film, or even as Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones did in the original Men in Black films.
Mainly set in Europe instead of in the United States (hence the 'International' in the title), the plot of this is straightforward enough, with Tess's character of Agent M mostly performing the same role as Will Smiths Agent J did originally.

David McK (3233 KP) rated Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol (2011) in Movies
Oct 11, 2020 (Updated Sep 18, 2022)
Your mission, should you choose to accept it ...
Fourth entry in the Tom Cruise headlined Mission: Impossible series, where he and fellow agents of the International Monetary Fund (that's why IMF stands for, right? Not Impossible Mission Force?) are on the run and seeking to stop a nuclear war following a failed mission in Russia that sees them disavowed.
This is the one where the standout sequence is Tom Cruise scaling the outside of the Burg Khalifa (the tallest building in the world) just before a sandstorm hits, and that introduces Jeremy Renner's CIA analyst, who also has a connection to Hunt's past.
