Ross (3284 KP) rated Arrow in TV

2012 | Drama
This series is a decent attempt at chronicling the background, and current activities of one of the DC Universe's lesser known/adapted for the screen heroes - the Green Arrow. While it starts as quite a dark, Batman-esque vigilante, it soon develops into a more team-based, lighter-hearted series. I think part of this is to fit more naturally with the cheesy spandex of The Flash. Despite this, the character of Oliver Queen retains a dark streak and his actions are much more morally dubious, giving it an edge. The story flips between present day and the island Oliver was marooned on, where he learned the skills needed to become the Green Arrow.

Enjoyable, but unoriginal.

The film is described as an adventure to save the island from a volcano, but it soon turns into exactly the same as the first Jurassic World film: genetic engineering, made-up dinosaur out of control etc.

The cast is good, Chris Pratt is excellent as ever, but unfortunately he is the only redeeming feature.

The story, as mentioned, is dull and a repeat of the first Jurassic World, but another disappointment is the use of CGI. Somehow, 25 years after the original Jurassic Park, the dinosaurs have become less realistic, moving down from high quality animatronics to average quality CGI, taking away all the charm.

Almost indescribably weird Japanese children's film takes all the tropes of the giant monster genre and somehow manages to make them thoroughly whimsical and charming. Up to a point, anyway. Anyone wondering about the sanitation arrangements on Monster Island will enjoy the giant monster toilet which turns up in this film.

The monster suits are awful, the acting mainly consists of the broadest kind of slapstick and people shouting at one another, and even the special effects are decidedly ropey. Yet we must remember this was a children's film and it does have a very peculiar gentle charm to it. If you like Japanese SF movies anyway. Everyone else will probably find it totally unwatchable.
