Rolling Stone's 426th greatest album of all time
An incredibly atmospheric live album (Cheap Trick really seem to have been massive in Japan, like Beatlemania level), including "I Want You to Want Me" and a number of other foot-stomping rock and roll songs. One nice little Easter Egg was discovering that the speaking at the end of "I Want You to Want Me" was sampled to introduce "Jimmy James" by the Beastie Boys on Check Your Head.

House of Salem is directed by James Crow and is a British occult horror that takes the viewer on a journey to a house that has a terrifying history. When kidnappers snatch Josh (played by newcomer Liam Kelly) from his home in the dead of night, they head to a safe house to await the delivery of their ransom money.

House of Salem isn’t the best horror you’ll see, but it’s certainly not the worst.

Godfather is iconic. An absolute classic must-watch, everything from the cast, acting, filmmaking, and storyline is on point. There is really nothing to fault.
In Godfather, family means absolutely everything and crime is almost a way of life, like a religion. Marlon Brando and James Caan are extraordinary actors, you really can't fault their performance.

The only negative thing I can point out, which isn't technically a bad thing, is the number of characters. To fully absorb all the details you definitely need to watch Godfather a few times to understand the complex family plots.

Detective Billy Harney comes from a family of cops. His dad is a cop, the head of detectives and his twin sister is a cop. Billy likes to play by the rules, he's a good cop. When he takes down a brothel in the middle of Chicago filled with the city's most prominent people, the mayor, the arch bishop, etc., he is faced with a few difficult situations to get him through this arrest and trial. With the help from Goldie, a family friend and the head of Internal Affairs, Billy will get to the bottom of this case one way or another. But then those involved in the case end up dead, including himself, briefly, and his memory leading up to the trial is erased. Will he be able to find his memory before he is charged with the deaths?

James Patterson has long been on of my go-to authors. His books may be long(100+ chapters), but they are always a quick read. I've been making my way through his standalone books this year and I have to say that his is one of the best he's written in a long time as well as one of the best I've read this year.

This book had me on the edge of my seat and as soon as I though I knew who did what, I quickly found out I was wrong. The end was unpredictable and enjoyable.

I hope James Patterson continues to give us books like this.

Danny Boyle is a director who rarely disappoints me even with weaker material his unique visual style makes for entertaining viewing. For me this was one of his better recent efforts and the story here is compelling with twists and turns galore (some plausible and some perhaps not so plausible) as we slowly unravel multiple plot lines connected with hypnosis and a botched art heist. The film is well paced and visually very impressive and kept me suitably hooked. The performances are also strong with James McAvoy and Vincent Cassel being the standouts but if the films plot leaves you scratching your head just a bit too much then there is always an eyebrow raising turn from Rosario Dawson that will certainly leave you with fond memories of the film.

The Ritual (2017)
The Ritual (2017)
2017 | Horror
OK, this film isn't trying to do anything new. A bunch of friends decide to head off hiking and take a wrong turn/short cut into the woods. Luckily for us, they don't meet James Corden singing, instead they start to feel like they're being followed, have weird dreams and are eventually stalked by a strange giant monster (which is gradually revealed over time).
This does have a feel of the blair witch but benefits from not having that annoying "found footage" aspect where people running for their lives insist on filming the event.
The film builds tension brilliantly, has some particularly creepy moments and doesn't fall down for trying to explain what is happening too much. Rafe Spall is excellent and none of the characters make any stupid illogical decisions that cause you to shout at the screen.

It's interesting to me that I liked this book so much more than Fifty Shades. Partially because I think that Christian is a far more interesting character than Ana - he has much more of a backstory. Maybe it's because I relate to him in a lot of ways. I've read reviews that think this wasn't a good book in any regard, that E.L. James clearly doesn't know how to write as if she were a man, and I disagree. I know a Christian-like man and reading this novel, it was like being in his head too.

However, I have the same issue that I had with Fifty Shades in the dialogue. I do not know a single American that says, "I'm going to have a shower." I'm not sure why that infuriates me so much, but alas, it does. I am anxious to read Darker and the next Fifty Shades.

Hmmm ... not Suicide Squad, but 'The Suicide Squad'.

Like Aliens and not Alien.

A sort-of sequel to the earlier movie (here, Suicide Squad), with some of the same characters - most noticeably, Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn - although it is by no means necessary to have watched that earlier movie.

This is also a fair bit bloodier/messier than I remember said earlier movie being, and has absolutely no mention of either Batman or the Joker (unless you count Quinn's aversion to personalised number plates? See The Jokers car ...) to distract from the plot here, which sees the group of super-villains (all with a tracker and bomb implanted in their head) all sent on a mission to the island of Corto Maltese to destroy a Nazi-era prison and laboratory.

Of the 2 movies, I think this is the better.

It's definitely a James Gunn film through and through!
