The Greater Good
Definitely my favourite movie of 2016. The cast are amazing, Pine and Foster are brilliant together and Jeff Bridges is incredible in his role as well. The score is fantastic, penned by the legendary Nick Cave and the whole thing is shot beautifully. I could praise this movie all day, but really everyone should see it for themselves.

A really good read and full of laughs. It details the highs and lows of a fan more famous now for saying 'Unbelievable Jeff' than being a footballer. Its hard to believe that he had such a varied career both in playing and managing. From the highs of the Navy to managing Stoke, this book contains a plethora of information for all readers to enjoy :)

Monica Albertson has moved to Cranberry Cove to help her half-brother, Jeff, run his cranberry farm. But when a body is found in one of the bogs on the first day of the harvest and the victim is someone who was stealing from Jeff, Monica soon realizes she must save him from being arrested for murder.

The book started out very slowly as it was setting up characters and the location. Unfortunately, I still had a hard time connecting with the characters until the second half. Likewise, the plot does pick up in the second half, but a day that vanishes from the timeline bothered me. The climax was wonderful and the killer a surprise, but overall, the book was just average.

NOTE: I received a copy of this book in hopes I would review it.

Essentially a modern retelling of HG Wells perennial 'War of the Worlds' classic, this - I believe - was also the film that launched Will Smith (then more well known as a rapper and as the French Prince of Bel Air) to mega-stardom, alongside established favourites such as Bill Pullman (as the president of the USA) and Jeff Goldlum being, well, Jeff Goldlum.

Essentially like having USA! USA! USA! shouted in your face for 2+ hours, I remember seeing it in the cinema - the effects, for the time, were mind-blowing (although I do have to wonder how much they would have changed in showing the destruction of the White House and large swathes of the American cities following 9/11), and, yes, Bill Pullman must give the most Jingoistic speech I've ever heard in a movie, but I have to say: leave your brain at the door (the aliens brought down by a computer virus. Really??) and go enjoy!

I've been a fan of war of the world's for donkeys years from the Jeff Lynne s album & 1953 movie to the original orsan wells recording radio version but this movie left me kind of disappointed like how is he driving the only workable motor vehicle when the others are dead just one of many questions I'm left to explain .this movie could of been alot better

This last offering before "Infinity War" basically softens the mood but we all know what's up next: Thanos' arrival. Chris Hemsworth clearly came out of his comfort zone in this film and it didn't all have to rely on him as Mark Buffalo, Tom Hiddleston, Cate Blanchett, Tessa Thompson, and the always entertaining Jeff Goldblum held their own in scenes separate and together with the God of Thunder. A must watch!!

"Something Wild made me fall in love with Melanie Griffith and with the idea of making movies. Like Jeff Daniels’s character, I wanted to be taken on a wild ride and to take people on one. There’s both such joy and terror in here, hardness and frailty. It made me appreciate that contradictions in characters are what make us sit up in amazement at the movie theater. There’s a Ray Liotta inside all of us"

"I would die to work with the Coen Brothers. I love their sense of humor. This film is hysterical on so many levels, but I guess it’s the diverse group of characters that really gets to me. Jeff Bridges is perfection as “the dude” and Julianne Moore kills it as Maude, but my favorite may be John Turturro as “Jesus.” To me, this is a perfect comedy. Oh yeah and the soundtrack is SICK!!!"

With his voice coming straight at ya right from the start, the hooks keep coming from Alex Bayly with his single Wade in the Water. Dreamy guitar licks and a tight bass line keep this track driving like a folk arrow through snow. It’s a track that belongs in your roots collection. If you squint at the chorus you can almost see Jeff Buckley; and that is not a coincidence judging by the title.

So bad it’s actually vaguely enjoyable
I remember watching this when it first came out at the cinema and I wasn’t particularly impressed, however on watching it again recently I can admit that this is definitely one of those films that’s so bad it’s actually quite entertaining. Mostly due to Jeff Bridges.

Let’s start with this obvious: I know this is based on a comic, but this is such a blatant rip off of Men in Black, it’s just a shame it comes off as a much poorer relation. Everything about this from the plot progression to the deados just echoes MIB, and that’s high expectations to live up to.
The main humour from this film comes from how the characters look normally versus how they appear in the real world, which admittedly is pretty hilarious but this is the only decent attempt at humour. The plot is completely dull and the Kevin Bacon as the villain is uninteresting too. The special effects are surprisingly good in parts, but then ruined by the downright terrible effects used on the deados. The true saviours of this film are Jeff Bridges and Ryan Reynolds. The relationship and communication between their characters is the most entertaining thing about this film and Jeff Bridges is in fine form hamming it up to the max as Roy. He may be going a little over the top, but it’s damn funny to watch. Just a shame they couldn’t have put more effort into the rest of the story.
