I am a big fan of both Lincoln Child and Douglas Preston, whether writing on their own or together as a team. I’m always excited when one of them has a new book published, so I was really looking forward to this one. I enjoyed the first three books in this series (LOVED #1 and #2), and I really wanted to love this book too. I have to admit that I was disappointed. It is still a good book, just not the great book that I was hoping for.


Dr. Jeremy Logan is an enigmologist called in to investigate the strange death of a scientist at Lux, a think-tank where Dr. Logan himself worked for a short time before being ousted for his non-traditional work. The scientists sudden strange behavior right before his death has the administration concerned enough to call in an expert, and due to the nature of the death, they decide that Jeremy is the perfect person to bring in to investigate.

He discovers a secret room in the west wing of the Lux complex, one that had just recently been discovered during some renovation work being done there. There is some strange equipment in this room, and evidence that someone else has been frequenting the room. Dr. Logan has to find out what research was being done in this forgotten room, and who might be trying to continue that work now.

It had an intriguing plot, and interesting characters, but some of Jeremy’s decisions and actions left me questioning his supposed intelligence in this one. It’s still a decent thriller though, and fans of the series won’t want to miss it.

Surprisingly Thrilling
I'm honestly surprised at how much I liked this film. I think the cast is phenomenal - I'm partial to anything Michelle Rodriguez is in - and I love Samual L. Jackson, Jeremy Renner, L.L Cool J, Colin Farrell, they were all great.

I think what surprised me the most was the dynamic between all the characters. It felt very effortless and natural, I don't think it was hard for them to get along, at least it didn't seem like it. And I think that they played friends to enemies to disappointed counterparts really well - specifically Renner and Farrell. They're both really strong actors and the subtleties they provided both their characters was really phenomenal.

I also loved seeing Jeremy in a different kind of role. I feel like we're partial to seeing him as Hawkeye, the Avenger, the hero, and this movie allowed him to be seen as something different. Granted it came out before the Avengers was ever probably a concept, but the point still stands. Also, the earrings. Loved those on him. But that's a minor detail.

Anyways! I really liked this film. Definitely worth the watch and not just a generic action film.

Not true to video games
I was cranky at the end of this
As a massive Assassin's Creed fan, I was very excited for this movie. I really wanted to like it: the visuals were great, the fight scenes were fun, and an interesting story. However, there were statements said that are absolutely not true about the Assassins and this ruined most of the movie for me. As an action movie, it's pretty good and the fight scenes are exciting. The costuming was great, as were the actors.
