"Mulholland Dr. was probably the nerdiest experience I’ve had. Just watching the film and then thinking about it, listening to commentaries, then researching online what other connections I missed and seeing all these deeper themes and meanings, I realized that’s how you can make a film! This was the first Lynch film I ever saw. That Naomi Watts performance, and the performance within the performance, still haunts me. The movie felt like it was just kind of fucking with me, and I really enjoyed that. Being John Malkovich was another one of those formative films that expanded my horizons on what film can be, what it can comment on, how many layers you can attach, and how meta it can get. Mulholland Dr. and Being John Malkovich came out around the time when I had already cemented in my mind what a movie was. Then for all that to just blow up in my face was really awesome."

Not bad attempt to mix "The Happening" and "A Quiet Place" Sandra Bullock is as always watchable these days in this mash up disaster movie.
It's really not as bad as others say, and the story is somewhat engaging though full of plot holes.
The cast are pretty decent, however John Malkovich is terribly underused and his character hamstrung by the average script, raises more questions than answers!

"I feel like that’s going to be a common one on a lot of these people’s list, but for me it’s just about the coolest movie I ever saw. When I saw it I was like, “That is so cool.” I don’t know if that was Charlie Kaufman’s intention, but I love that it was the real John Malkovich. I think that’s where I started to be kind of excessive with pulling back the fourth wall a little bit. Although, that might be a recurring theme with my movies, now that I’m thinking about it."

"Charlie Kaufman wrote it. All of his movies I Love. I have not seen a Charlie Kaufman film I didn’t love. And in the hands of the right director, you know – Spike Jonze, Michel Gondry — when you let them [work on] a Charlie Kaufman script, it’s cinematic magic. Being John Malkovich was at a certain point in time in my life and it stood out against all the other noise that was happening in my life. It left an indelible impression on me and I still can revisit that movie anytime and watch it and enjoy it."

Poor portrayal of Poirit
Huge dissapointment
I'm a big fan of Poirot and have seen many portrayals of the great detective, and this is probably the worst... John Malkovich however talented he may be - is not a Poirot...

I know the story of the ABC murders and I was still confused as to what was going on, so I can't imagine how it must have been for somebody that doesn't know it, it was over complicated in its narrative and writing and didn't flow in an easy to watch way.

I genuinely feel it is three hours of my life I cannot get back.

With the exception of a couple of half decent action scenes, Ava doesn't have much going for it. It's feels generic, it feels phoned in, and above all, it's just quite boring.
It has an engaging enough set up, but somewhere around the half hour mark, it just kind of trails off into limbo, as a pretty stacked cast are subjected to a lackluster script. Seriously, Jessica Chastain is doing the best she can with what she's been given, but considering Ava also stars the likes of John Malkovich, Geena Davis, Colin Farrell, Joan Chen, Ioan Gruffudd - all heavy hitters who don't make much impact. The whole experience is just uninspired.
It's not a complete train wreck, but since John Wick exploded into cinemas, these kind of films have been a dime a dozen, and Ava doesn't do nearly enough to rise above its peers.
