I really enjoyed reading this book, I thought it was well written, well edited and it kept my interest from beginning to end. This is not the type of book that I usually go for but going through an unplanned pregnancy alone (under different circumstances) I wanted to read something that I might possibly be able to relate to...and in some way I did. The reason why I knocked off a star was because some of the author's decisions made me a bit twitchy eyed...but hey it's each to their own. Overall, I did enjoy this memoir about an unwanted pregnancy after a one night stand and I felt good to be able to follow the journey of a woman in a similar situation as me but from a different world.

They are vital, raw, even primitive in style, full of nonactors who are alternately charismatic and arch; there is an aesthetic in these movies that is stripped to the bone. These films, taken together, are immediate godfather to the French New Wave. When Truffaut saw the cinematic journey of the eleven-year-old Edmund Meschke in Germany Year Zero, the seeds of his Antoine Doinel character were planted. The interviews and documentary extras in this set are one of the great treasures of neorealism research."

This book starts with 19 year old Vivan writing to women about how she came to know and what she possibly was to this womens father. It takes us on her journey of 1940s New York through the war and after how the world changed. Vivian does focus a lot on Vivian but the story is hers to tell, and she isn't shy about her faults. I loved her and I have to say there were things she did, said and felt that I feel came directly out of me. Elizabeth Gilbert worte a beautiful story that took at times a slow pace but still felt as though my time was valuable in experiencing the whole story. Now were are my pearls and a good cocktail ...
