An old film I never got round to watching. Anne Hathaway's first major film role. It's a fairly simple tale along the lines of Cinderella, and class change. From the director of @Pretty Woman (1990) it's also similar to @Miss Congeniality (2000) released the year before. A shy nerdy girl discovers she is a Princess and is schooled by Disney Royalty Julie Andrews. Ok for a family film if not that original.

A timeless classic!
I hate to admit I had never seen the original Mary Poppins until today. I really loved it.

While not made for a 47-year-old man, I found plenty to enjoy including some songs I already knew and some new ones I had never seen before. I like musicals, but am still sort of a novice at them having not seen some of the classics.

The story is a simple one; however, that does not mean it is not entertaining. I really liked it a lot.

Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke were amazing.

Hi @Amy Curtis ! No I haven't. I don't get to the theatre too much and the reviews were just mediocre so I'll probably wait and watch at home.

It's arguable that Disney take a big risk in making a sequel to one of their most beloved movies (and the one that Walt Disney himself saw as their pinnacle), decades after the original, and with a different actor (Emily Blunt) taking on the role most associated with Julie Andrews.

And, while it's enjoyable enough, this doesn't really hold a candle to that original, despite Emily Blunt giving it her all (and, from what I remember, portraying a somewhat 'softer' Mary Poppins).

The structure is pretty similar to the first film, complete with a last-minute rush to the bank, with the film again focusing on the Banks family: the 2 children from the original now grown up, with worries and a family of their own providing the McGuffin that gets Mary Poppins to return.

"I’m gonna have to say Mary Poppins. I’m really gonna say it. If it was on right now, I would hang up on you and start watching it. There’s no way I could ever not watch it if it was on, so I think that’s a sign of it being one of your top five. It’s so… merry. You can’t watch that and not feel good, and I love Glynis Johns, the woman who plays the mother, and I love Julie Andrews. I mean, when it was windy in Oklahoma City when I was a kid, I used to get my umbrella and go out and try to fly. I think I actually did a few times, but don’t tell anybody. Just the magic of it all. I love it."
