Jcadden76 (64 KP) rated OverDrive: eBooks & audiobooks in Apps

Great for eBooks
Like having a public library in your pocket. I used it, primarily, for audio books. I burned through the unabridged selection very quickly and stopped using it.
The eBook portion of the app is really good though. You can port it to almost any ereader and again, it is free just like the library.
If they would have a better selection of audio books that were not abridged, I would be back on this platform in a heartbeat.

Donna (1 KP) rated Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018) in Movies
Jul 1, 2018 (Updated Jul 1, 2018)
I loved the film, the storyline was good, it just didn't wow me like the first one did. It seemed to me that it was trying to hard to beat Jurassic World. Bryce Dallas Howard, excels herself in it, but she is maybe not the beat person for it. It felt like she was trying to hard to keep up with Chris Pratt & everyone else.
I hope they do a 3rd and final one, and don't be money grabbing idiots and try and drain it. It would be nice to see how Blue ended up.

Jeremy King (346 KP) rated Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2 (2018) in Movies

Just finished watching this with my little guy. I enjoyed it but as a parent i like it for a diiferent reason. Lets break it down.
Friends helping each other
Friends going on an adventure
Friends going finding out stuff about them selves
Friends seperating and going their own ways.
I have 3 boys and my oldest is going off to college so i seen this break down in his life. my youngest is 10yrs younger and he pointed that this movie seems to be like his older brother life and his friends.
Dont take movies a face value you might learn something.

Good story (1 more)
Good title
Confused (1 more)
Dramatic
I did enjoy the book by the end and the story was interesting. It just seemed very dramatic and at times cliche. The main character was diificult to believe, as the blurb describes them as a 13 year old boy. The language used by the 13 year old boy was a bit far fetched and he came across wiser than his years. I realise it is written as a looking back novel but it was difficult to like a 13 year old that speaks like a 30+ year old man.

Kristina (502 KP) rated The Hard Truth About Sunshine in Books
Dec 7, 2020
The Hard Truth About Sunshine was a very raw, very real experience of how I couldn't even begin to imagine a wounded veteran feels like. Sure, I mentioned that Christopher was hard to like, but I never for a second forgot the trauma he was living with. Even still, I was thankful to watch his perspective on life change. Traveling with Christopher, Jillian, Conner, and Barb was enlightening. There were so many ups and downs, but the meaning behind the book is a lesson that's not just hard to learn, but impossible for some people to acknowledge.

Terri Wiltshire (21 KP) rated Brave New World in Books

Well developed flawed protagonists who really come alive. (3 more)
Scarily believable future scape.
Feels like a warning without being preachy
Fantastically poignant ending
Ahead of his time. A must for sci fi fans
If you like science fiction read this. This is part of our history, part of the beginning. So much other great literature sprang from and was inspired by this novel.
Detailed believable culture and characters that despite living in the dystopian world created by Huxley are relatable and real. Flawed humans trying to find meaning to their existence.
No spoilers...just read it.

Ok Spy Action
A decent Action film with not a lot of new ideas to it. The idea of some sort of device that can hack into anything has been covered by just about every Spy franchise going, even Fast and the Furious. The action scenes are good and it tries to add some crazy advanced tech in order to help out the main character with a visual aid. If you like these type of action films you'll like it but nothing much original to see here.
