I can't believe it just ended like that! Of course I now need to go and buy the second one!

It took me a while to get into the story but once it got going I kinda devoured it. I liked the whole Captain Hook isn't so bad and the plotline about him and Peter Pan. I also liked the romance aspect and really want to know what's going to happen next with this note that's been left!

Ugh! Off to hunt it out on Amazon!

A worthwhile chore

I must admit, this was a chore to get through. But it came together in the end. I struggle something with Week's prose. There are some habits of his that just erk me somewhat. I also haven't read many series bigger than a trilogy, so the overall arc is feeling perhaps a little steep for me at the moment. I'm sure it's as much me as it is the book. Saying all this I never felt like DNFing it, and definitely moving onto book 3 imminently.

"Like Melville, Michael Mann is a master of silent storytelling, but he is also one of the best writers of dialogue I know. There’s a scene between James Caan and Tuesday Weld in a diner that goes on for ten minutes, but you never get bored for a second. They go from being virtual strangers to lovers in the course of a conversation, and you don’t question it. Not only do his criminals feel authentic when they talk about their profession but their inarticulate attempts at declaring their love feel just as true."

"That hits home for my sci-fi nerd self side of myself. I love the first one, A New Hope — that’s where it all started. But, Empire was just so awesome. I always remember watching Empire and being like, “Man, this movie is awesome from top to bottom.” So many good battles between Luke and Vader. Luke getting his arm chopped off — it’s a cold blooded movie. Return of the Jedi is awesome too. But, without Empire Strikes Back, I don’t know if Jedi would’ve even been a thing. So much Billy Dee Williams, too."

"I just love this book. When I was halfway through it—right around when one of the three daughters tries to talk to her father and he goes out into a storm—I was like, “Oh my God, this is King Lear.” I was so impressed with how Smiley was able to take such a classic tale and put it in rural 20th-century Iowa. It’s beautiful, it’s crushing, it’s everything King Lear is—and it’s effortless. I was blown away by the imagination, intellect and talent it must have taken to do that."

I was really excited as thought it was going to be like Rogue Squadron which was one of the best games ever!
However, you are forced to only control the ships in 1st person which for me is not as fun as seeing outside the ship and what's happening. It meant for me that I took a few attempts to complete some missions. I just didn't get into the game because of the ship control which really disappointed me as wanted to get into the story and missions

"The movie Churchill! Well of course, yeah! I mean, I had hearing aids on but I couldn’t catch exactly all the words, but I knew the meaning behind them. It was just marvelous how, I guess, a politician could absorb so much of the strategy required to deal with the challenges that Great Britain faced. The guy who played Churchill, when I saw him in real life, I can’t imagine how they made him up to look like Winnie. He was bouncing all over the place, making facial expressions all the time."

I don't know why, but from the very beginning, I just couldn't get into this book. I feel like it might have been one of Renee's first few, because I have read a couple of others by her that I completely enjoyed. I was speed reading through the last 40% of it, but believe me, I got the gist of what was happening. I was mildly surprised at one thing, but not very much. Despite the fact I gave this story a 2-star rating, I can tell you it was definitely sweet.
