Feb 21, 2018
Charley joins a book club in the hope that making friends with the towns elite will drum up business for her clothing store. She finds that she isnt really fitting in with the Agathas, as the members are known, but sticks with it anyway. It isnt long, however, before murder victims start turning up arranged just like the victims in the novels that the book club is reading. Charley manages to use her status as a member of the club to convince a detective to let her help with the investigation, but puts her own life in danger in the process.

For me, this book could easily have been 150 plus pages shorter than it was. The fact the climax to the story happens almost 100 pages (I'm guessing here as I listened to the audio version, so estimating based on percentage and Goodreads page count) before the actual end is testimony to that. It just felt like it needed more editing. Sadly, for me this made it the weakest of the series, as I ended up getting lost as to my position in the plot, abs felt the characters got diluted due to the size of the plot. For me, the strength of the series were the characters and the dynamics between them, but they got shifted around so much that all of that was lost. It's a shame, because it really should have ended on a high!

An erotic ride....
Two for Tuesday is an erotic, very sensual story. Not only does it draw you into a heady sexual relationship but it highlights the differences between different social backgrounds.....Mel being a more country girl and Marcus being from the city.
Colour is only really referred to once or so, the cheeky stereotype.....which Mel clears up by saying she's gone back and forth over that line haha.
I like both characters, though Marcus was a tad needy, but it didn't make it any less enjoyable......just more realistic.
Bit of a spoiler......it gives hope that things can happen/get back on track after years apart. Also that sexual chemistry can't always be worn out!!
Definitely an adult only read.....to be read alone as it gets pretty hot and very detailed!

Superior movie that still sets the gold standard for recent-fact-based-drama and heroic-journalists-investigate-corruption movies. Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein are assigned to what looks like just a weird break-in at the Watergate offices of the Democratic party, but discover a trail that ultimately incriminates some very big names indeed.
Proof that you can make a gripping thriller without actually including a single car chase or fist-fight; much of the film is people on the telephone making notes, but it's still a captivating story. Solid performances, decent structure, perhaps lacks a big climax, but you can see its influence on many other acclaimed films since (The Post and Spotlight are cut from the same cloth, and in the former case features some of the same figures). And yet Rocky still won the Oscar. Conspiracy!!!

I read this quite a long time ago, but I have to say that I do read all of Philippa Gregory’s books because they’re just really good stories. I do have a bit of a thing about the Tudor period, and I’ve read a fair bit of both fiction and non-fiction around the period. I’m aware that this (and her others) may be heavily fictionalised, but part of reading is entertainment, no? But I do like how I feel immersed in these stories.
And who knew that Anne Boleyn’s sister had an affair with Henry VIII before Anne married him (well, when the book came out, not many people seemed to know - unless they were very heavily into their history!)? And honestly, I wouldn’t be overly surprised if a lot of goes on in the book actually happened!

An interesting tale
My biggest criticism about this book is that it has been written for kids, or young adults, and I feel like this is a big shame as it could have been pretty terrifying. But aside from the fairly creepy first chapter, it falls just a little short of being actually scary (at least for a fully grown adult).
But that doesn't mean it's not a good book, because it is and it's such a wonderful idea for a story. I found it well paced and intriguing, with a lot of interesting characters although j do wish we'd have seen more of some of them. There is a certain lack of threat even considering the death theme, aside for the ghoul gate episode, but this is still such an enjoyable read that this doesn't really matter.
