Ma (2019) doesn't need to spike your punch to put you to sleep.
The most horrifying thing about this lukewarm all-filler, no-killer thriller is how much on-screen talent is wasted in telling its flaccid, predictable and profoundly stupid story...

When a home and lifestyle maven is killed in town, Hannah starts investigating to find the killer. Good recipes and great characters keep the pages turning.

At last, a movie for modern day America: one where the people colluding with the Russian president are the good guys!

Movie Favorite

"The film debut of Vince Cassel, this film documents the Paris riots of the early 1990s. Filmed in black and white, it is an intimate look at French youth. The music is killer, the performances almost come through the camera, and hoodlums have never seemed so hip."

Pleasantly surprised
Having never heard of this series, I have to say, I really enjoyed it. Set on Sunset Strip in the 1980's, this crime show has everything except big names, but don't let that put you off. It follows the story of the police chasing a serial killer, but unlike most other shows like this, you get to see the story from both the police and the killer alike. I also think that because the story is told over the whole series and not crammed into a one episode slot, it allows a lot more perspective to consider. Roll on Series 2.

Deadly Sins
What to say about a movie that turns you inside out and makes you look at yourself in a different light. The movie focuses around a serial killer (Kevin Spacy) who is all about the seven deadly sins. We see two detectives (Freeman and Pitt) trying to solve them only to realize that the killer is targeting people who have committed of the the seven sins. The ending of this movie is morbid and frightening even though we can figure out "What's in the Box" which in the manner it is said made it into AFI's top 100 quotes ever and for good reason.

Summer of 84 (2018)
Summer of 84 (2018)
2018 | Horror
In June of 1984 two huge events occured. One being my birth, but the other not quite as great, as there was a serial killer on the loose in Cape May. Four 15 year old boys, who were like The Monster Squad meets The Hardy Boys, know that every serial killer is someone's neighbor, and they think their neighbor fits the bill. Unlike the kids on the milk cartons, Summer of 84 is not to be missed. Just as every 15 year old boy is excited about spying on the hot girl across the street and seeing her change clothes, you should be just as excited to see Summer of 84.

So having read / listened to a few YA novels recently thinking they would lighten the mood I went back to my usual pick of full-on serial killer gore-tastic and why did I ever leave!?! This is my thing apparently (not sure what that says about me!!)

I enjoyed this dark police procedural it ticked all the requirements, evil but clever killer, a determined but troubled police detective (not too much romance.) I listened to the audiobook narrated by CharlottMelen and appreciated the experience of not tripping over the Danish name pronunciation as would have happened if I'd read it.... Not for the weak of stomach.
