Rather bland 80's Slasher
Well thought I'd give this old early 80's Slasher a go. Most slasher films of the time are very similar to this. Plain stalk and slash stuff. There is quite a lot of character build up for a change though. It has a couple of scenes that stand out and a couple of attempts at humour more in line with Slasher films of the 90's. Sadly though the killer is rather dull and without any real motive it seems. The scariest thing about him is his hair cut.
One for those who enjoy 80's Slasher films, even if they are quite bad.

This was a cover buy for me for sure. But I didn't NOT like it.

Makani is stuck living with her grandma in nowhere Nebraska, being shipped off by her parents who are struggling through a divorce in Hawaii, when their small Nebraska town suddenly becomes home to a serial killer.

Love the idea, didn't love the pacing. The first half was slow for me. Halfway through we are told who the killer is. Which initially I hated, but the second half definitely picked up speed, and the ending, while a little unbelievable, did redeem the book overall for me.

If nothing else, this was a good way to end spooky season!

Had potential
This started off OK, a sort of Slasher film with a twist with the killer forcing victims to choose who to kill or be attacked. With a detective element to it as well. Katheryn Winnick of Vikings stars as a journalism student tracking the killer along with her dad as the local sheriff in a small town.
Just a shame it didn't reach its potential, not a particularly scary film. Seems to be stuck between genres without choosing which direction to go in. The second half of the film unravels without much drama to a rather tame ending. OK if you want a short film to pass the time.

The ultimate choice
A killer is loose, a killer that makes friends, loved ones, colleagues choose between life or death. The only way out is to make the decision else you both die.

DI Helen Grace is a brilliant character, dark and delicious with lots of intricate problems. I like the jump between different timelines and how they come together at the end.

The reader is kept in the dark till quite near the end and then the pace, which us already fast, ramps up another notch. I really couldnt put it down.

I may need to read some more DI Helen Grace books.
