Hazel (2934 KP) rated Ready Or Not in Books
Sep 26, 2021
This is a deliciously creepy and gripping read made all the better as it's partly set in my neck of the woods!
A serial killer is on the loose murdering people at random and the police have no leads whatsoever. Tom and Alice are happily married with a beautiful baby girl but the cracks begin to show; they are exhausted by a lack of sleep, bruising begins to appear on their baby and Alice starts writing about the serial killer. As Alice becomes more embroiled in her story, it appears the killer has her in his sights.
Written from different perspectives and with timelines from the past which smoothly lead into the present, this is a fast paced and thrilling read where the tension builds and builds right until the end. Each and every character is strong and adds something to the story.
I have read some of Alex Lake's previous books and have enjoyed each and every one of them and I will certainly be looking out for the next.
Thank you to HarperCollins UK / HarperFiction and NetGalley for my copy in return for an honest, unbiased and unedited review.

Psychic readings and personality profiles don't make a relationship - but trust does.
Although psychic Isabelle de Grey and FBI Special Agent Gavin "Mac" MacMillan are most definitely a couple, they hadn't counted on being together 24/7. But when a serial killer known as the Chameleon takes a special interest in Isabelle, Mac refuses to leave her side.
Though deeply in love, their relationship is put to the test when the FBI, against Mac's wishes, asks Isabelle to act as a decoy. Although Isabelle is willing, the plan unwittingly plays into Mac's darkest and secret fear. As their relationship strains to the breaking point and Isabelle's life hangs in the balance, Mac finally understands that every predator must have their prey.
A super quick catch up with Isabelle and Mac as she gets taken by the elusive Chameleon killer. This is a little spicy 12 chapter read. I’m a little disappointed in the anti climax of this killer that has tormented them in the previous 2 books. But it was ok.

Hazel (2934 KP) rated The Serial Killer's Daughter in Books
Aug 14, 2022
As with the first in the series, The Serial Killer's Wife, this is not your usual serial killer story and although this is the second book, you don't have to have read the first ... this can be listened to/read as a standalone very easily.
Jenny is a local vet living with her husband and 2 children in a quiet village in Devon where nothing usually happens but then a young woman goes missing, Jenny is having blackouts and someone is leaving her "presents" on her doorstep. Jenny starts to doubt her own sanity and suspects those around her but could it be related to her father, the serial killer known as The Painted Lady Killer? Is Jenny taking after her father?
This is a great book to listen to and although it's a slow burner, it certainly kept me engaged throughout. It's full of suspense and mystery with a great twist at the end and I particularly liked the narrators who did a great job.
Many thanks to HarperCollins UK Audio and NetGalley for enabling me to listen to The Serial Killer's Daughter and share my thoughts.

You set the trap. Now you can't escape.
When an online prank goes viral and triggers a spate of gruesome murders, documentary maker Hazel Salter watches in horror. But then Hazel's childhood friend, Meredith Hickman, is the next victim, Hazel knows she has to find out what happened to her.
Is it one killer or more? Random acts of violence or part of a bigger, twisted plan?
The police have no leads, but Hazel has a theory - one she'll stop at nothing to prove - and she also has a film crew. She'll make a documentary, catch the killer, and give Meredith justice.
Her stage is the abandoned amusement park where Meredith was found.
Her cast are the family and friends the killer left behind.
And her crew? They keep disappearing, one by one...
I absolutely loved this! It’s the sort of horror movie I’d watch! It all played out in my head and it was brutal. I didn’t want to put it down. So so good fast paced and well written.

Movie Critics (823 KP) rated Atomic Blonde (2017) in Movies
Jun 7, 2017
Leitch and Theron turn in a serviceable thriller with killer action sequences. At the very least Atomic Blonde can be called the best DTV action film ever made. A title that really isn’t too shabby at all.

McConaughey's cop who moonlights as a killer in this adaptation of a stage play is totally on fire, it's dark and violently twisted but also outrageously funny, all players are on top form in this black comedy and you will look at fried chicken in a new light towards the end of the movie.
Kristy H (1252 KP) rated Sweetheart (Archie Sheridan & Gretchen Lowell, #2) in Books
Feb 1, 2018
Addictive sequel to Cain's "Heartsick" -- featuring serial killer Gretchen Lowell, detective Archie Sheridan, and reporter Susan Ward. Picks up shortly after the end of the first novel, with the intersection of a story Ward is pursuing and the ongoing twisted relationship of Archie and Gretchen. As with the first novel, hard to put down...
