LeftSideCut (3776 KP) rated There's Someone Inside Your House (2021) in Movies
Oct 27, 2021
Straight off the bat, I didn't hate There's Someone Inside Your House. As far as 90s inspired teen slashers go, it's relatively entertaining - it's has some solid gore, it's pacing is snappy for the most part, and the opening 15 minutes or so has some genuinely unsettling wide shots of houses with subtly open doors, hinting at someone unwanted being inside. It's a neat trick that's repeated once, but then unfortunately abandoned.
The main issue with TSIYH is how darn predictable it is, down to every set piece and narrative beat. The eventual killer reveal is sadly an obvious one, and there are even moments where the plot threatens to get a little ballsy but chickens out at the last second.
TSIYH had some fun slasher moments for sure, and I did like the multiple mask concept of the killer, but it's over reliance on genre tropes, and tendency to play it safe drag the overall experience down.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2572 KP) rated 1st to Die (Women's Murder Club, #1) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
When a maniac starts killing honeymooners, Lt. Boxer of the SFPD looks for help outside the box for bringing the killer to justice. This series debut had a decent plot until the ending, which was just stupid. I did like the main characters, although I could have used fewer details on their love lives.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2572 KP) rated Double Dealer (Bert & Nan Tatum, #4) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
After some public fights with an antique dealer, Nan and Bert both find themselves questioned by the police when he is killed. But when Bert's daughter is arrested for the crime, the twins must once again track down a killer. More fun moments and more great twists with this duo detective act.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2572 KP) rated Killer Wedding (Madeline Bean, #3) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Madeline attends a wedding at the LA Nature Museum. The company putting it on wants Madeline to buy it out, but then the owner is killed during the reception. Another fun book filled with great characters and a strong story. The ending scene is a bit of a cliche, but it is still fun.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2572 KP) rated Killer Cruise (A Jaine Austen Mystery, #8) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Jaine has earned herself a free vacation by agreeing to teach memoire writing aboard a cruise ship. But things go from bad (her cat stows away) to worse when someone is murdered on board and Jaine's new friend is accused of the crime. Absolutely hilarious as always with a decent mystery as well.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2572 KP) rated Killer Mousse (A Della Cooks Mystery #1) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Della is thrilled with her new job as the host of a cooking show on the Better Living Network. But when the woman she is replacing dies during Della's live debut, Della finds herself in hot water. The plot was decent and the characters were interesting, but I absolutely hated the romantic sub-plot.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2572 KP) rated A Quarter for a Kiss (The Million Dollar Mysteries #4) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Callie and her boss Tom are finally getting to know each other as something more, but their time together is interrupted with mutual friend Eli is shot. Can they figure out who is after him? Another great read with plenty of twists and great characters. Just watch out for that killer cliffhanger.
