Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2398 KP) rated Moving is Murder (A Mom Zone Mystery, #1) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Air Force wife Ellie is used to moving. They've arrived at a new base, this time one their best friends are also assigned to. However, one of those friends is soon accused of murder. Being new to the base, and Ellie work out the local politics to find the killer? The characters are a bit under developed and the plot moves slowly in the first half. It does pick up later, but it wasn't the strongest debut overall.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2398 KP) rated Dead Man's Switch (A Kate Reilly Mystery #1) in Books

Kate has finally landed a job as a race car driver. Unfortunately, it's at the expense of the man she found murdered. With the police and gossip thinking she did it, Kate jumps in to find the real killer.
I felt the author was trying too hard to share her racing knowledge with us, and the result slowed the story down. Some of the characters were a tad under developed as well. Still, the climax was great and the solution was logical.

Dean (6927 KP) rated Sorority Row (2009) in Movies
Mar 10, 2018
A very good fun slasher that has a lot of humour in it. One of the best slasher films I have seen in a while, maybe since House of Wax? It seems the guys working on this know all the right ingredients to give the fans what they want. It doesn't take itself seriously and the characters still make jokes even when being chased by the killer....which was maybe going a bit far. Still it has a cool young cast, good effects, some original kills and a wild party theme throughout. Definitely one for slasher fans!!

Dean (6927 KP) rated Blitz (2011) in Movies

A gritty hard thriller about a cop killer in London. It has a great well known UK cast, more TV than film though. The only real problem is the story they have to work with, it's a bit weak at best. As a result there is very little suspense in the plot, it also has a fairly low budget feel to it. It's ok for those who like a quick fix of action/thriller with a simple basic story. Others might like a bit more substance in the plot, which could have made it a lot better.

I’m a sucker for thrillers and this is no exception. This one is a plot twist and a very good one. She makes you think that the real antagonist is the chiefs daughter when the real culprit is the last person you’d expect it to be. This book had me on the edge of my seat and I could not put it down. If you enjoy a good mind blowing, plot twist, this is the book for you

Sarah Betts (103 KP) rated Vampire in Books
Dec 31, 2019
So, one night a gypsy fortune-teller(snerk) is super-bored and decides to tell one of her customers that he is a vampire(as you do) and will have to find his true love to have eternal happiness.
Enter our heroine. Darcy is being dropped off by her harridan mother because her honeymoon is more important than her kid and OOPS! her aunt is gone because she's a money-obsessed jerkface.
The only problem I have with this book is it's predictability. If I gave you a description of the characters, you'd know right away which one is the killer.

Suspense
Detectives McCabe and Savage, in the first of this series, are on the hunt for a sick individual, murdering young healthy women and removing their hearts. After they find the body of a young missing girl, they are informed another woman has gone missing already, and the clock starts ticking... they have a week to find her and taking the killer down.
Interesting read, like the characters but would like to see more character development and the partnership between McCabe and Savage... is it sexual, friendly... it’s hard to ascertain.
Well written and gripping, finished in 24 hours.
