I love crimes books and I'm usually good at discovering the killer and sometimes the motive before it is revealed in the book but this one I couldn't guess at all. I enjoy when a book has me stumped as it keeps me reading. This was definitely a book I couldn't out down and needed to find out the killer.
The author really made the characters come to life and gave them their own voice and personality. They got each person spot on which might sound a weird thing to say but it helped the book and get an upstanding of each character.
Although it was a crime book there was a slight romance story to it. I like when a story has two stories ongoing as long as they don't intertwine too much and put one story into the background.
The blurb caught my attention but didn't give too much away.
I would read the other books in this series.

Because we meet the members of the bridal party in a couple of group scenes, I had trouble keeping them all straight early on, but as the book progressed, I found it easier to remember their relationships. The plot is strong, with some nice red herrings that kept me confused until we reached the climax. Helping things out are some fun sub-plots, although one of them stretched credibility a bit too far for me. I’ll believe that Sasha can solve the murder but not how this sub-plot played out. I think that may be on me. We do get updates on Sasha’s larger group of family and friends, but they mostly stay in the background, which helps us get to know the suspects better. This is a wonderful winter time cozy, so snuggle in with a blanket and your favorite hot beverage and enjoy.

As soon as I heard about this book, I knew I had to read it. I always love Southern California settings, although it’s been years since I visited Catalina. I certainly did enjoy the setting. Overall, the book was too frenetic, however. It was trying to be funny, but much of the humor didn’t work for me. I did laugh a few times, but overall, it was too much. This effected some of the characters, too, although I did enjoy others. Despite finding the body early on, the pace was uneven, getting better the further we got into the book. While I followed the killer and motive, the ending was rushed and left some questions about earlier twists in the book. I was hoping to love this debut, but it turned out to be average.

I thought it was fab! I love this duo and Anne’s writing style. I did have the murderer pegged from the beginning but even so it was such an entertaining read. Can’t believe there are only 4 books in this series so only 1 more to go.
