Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2395 KP) rated Fun House (John Ceepak Mystery, #7) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
A reality competition has come to Sea Haven, and Ceepak and Danny have gotten caught up in the action when the sudden star of the show is caught with steroids. But when the bodies turn up, they have to dig deep to find the killer. As always, I loved spending time in this resort town and with the cops, who continue to develop as a characters. The book is filled with foul language, which reminds me why I don't watch the shows that were being spoofed here.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2395 KP) rated First-Degree Fudge (A Fudge Shop Mystery #1) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Ava Oosterling is setting up a fudge shop in part of her grandfather's tackle store. But when a visiting actress is found dead with a piece of Ava's fudge in her mouth, she's got to find the killer before she is arrested for murder.
The book was going along okay, although Ava could be a bit annoying. But then at the half way point, there was a twist that made no sense, and Ava went off the deep end. I wanted to like this debut, but it was another disappointment.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2395 KP) rated Mr. Monk Gets on Board (Mr. Monk #17) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
When Natalie decides to attend a business conference on a cruise ship, she is surprised when Monk tags along. She's almost talked him into leaving when she over hears a murder plot. Can they stop it? Can they prove who the killer is?
A couple of times, this book got a little lost in the fun of Monk on the cruise ship, just like the series. And just like in the series, I enjoyed those moments. The mystery was still strong and the characters were great as always.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2395 KP) rated Hot, Shot, and Bothered (Lilly Hawkins, #2) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
TV news shooter Lilly Hawkins is filming the wildfire burning out of control near Bakersfield when a body is found in a lake. When it turns out to be someone she knows and she doesn't buy the story of how she died, Lilly sets out to find the killer. I missed the supporting cast from the first book, although I still enjoyed my time with Lilly. Decent mystery, too. My biggest issue was actually the fire - hit a little too close to home for me.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2395 KP) rated And a Puzzle to Die On (Puzzle Lady #6) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Puzzle Lady Cora Felton is hiding from her birthday by digging into a 20 year old murder. Why is someone interested in the case now? Is the real killer behind bars? The plot contains plenty of twists, but I felt the ending was overly convoluted. There was plenty of word play, which is why I read the series, so I loved that. Those who read for the cross word puzzles might be disappointed to learn they are unrelated to the mail plot. Personally, that didn't bother me.

Awix (3310 KP) rated Near Dark (1987) in Movies
Mar 19, 2018
Cult horror from Bigelow and the supporting cast of Aliens boldly reinvents the vampire movie by dumping all the gothic trappings (coffins, crucifixes, bats) and tapping into more contemporary fears: the movie's band of wandering killer rednecks would be frightening even if they weren't vampires.
Genuinely unsettling, very influential: to be honest the leads are less memorable than the character turns from Henriksen, Paxton and Goldstein, but you go to watch a vampire movie for the vampires, don't you? Works just as well as a western, in its own way, too. The movie that The Lost Boys dreams of being when it grows up.

Erika Kehlet (21 KP) rated Blackberry Burial (A Berry Basket Mystery #2) in Books
Feb 21, 2018
NOTE: I voluntarily read and reviewed a free copy provided to me by the author.
Marlee and friends are back in the 2nd Berry Basket Mystery, and I enjoyed this one even more than the first. While surveying a possible starting location for the annual road rally, Marlee finds the body of a girl missing for 20 years hidden in the overgrowth. Can she catch a killer when the murder happened so long ago?
I enjoy reading about Marlee and her friends, and I would love to visit Oriole Point. With such a great combination of characters, setting, and suspense, Im already looking forward to book #3.

Seductive Sparrows!
I'm baaaaaaaaaaaaaack!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My sincerest apologies for not posting last week guys but sometimes university dissertation has to take priority you know?
Anyway, I have a killer book review today with the movie adaptation releasing on the 1st of March. The movie 'Red Sparrow' stars Jennifer Lawrence, ultimate baddest bitch of all time, alongside Joel Edgerton, Jeremy Irons and Matthias Schoenaerts.
I would always always advise you read the book before you watch a movie adaptation because I feel like you get more context and detail but thats just my biased view in favour of books :)

Destiny (8 KP) rated Pokémon GO in Apps
Jul 31, 2018
Reason to walk (2 more)
Fun interactive game
Kid friendly
I've had this app on and off ever since it came out. It hasn't gotten much better in the sense of the different things you can do, friends and trading, and speed and crashing. I remember 2 years ago it crashed nearly every time I opened the app and it does much better now. I think it only crash on me recently because I needed to update.
It's also a great game to play on road trips. You can see where you picked up each pokemon and it's a lot of fun sending gifts from a variety of pokestops and gyms.

Dork_knight74 (881 KP) rated Tusk (2014) in Movies
Jul 31, 2018 (Updated Jul 31, 2018)
Watched this horror/comedy "crazed killer" movie on Netflix(not exclusive). The cinematography was fine. The acting was over the top (purposefully, I believe). The story was one of the weirdest things I've ever seen in a movie. It starts out simple enough, but just gets weirder and weirder as it goes on. The characters aren't exactly "deep". I wouldn't recommend this for kids(because of some gross scenes-your call) but if you're into dark comedy horrors, you'll enjoy this one. I managed to finish it(with a lot of eye rolling and a few chuckles). The end had me smh(goofy). It's worth a watch if you're bored.
