"I’d never seen this one, but you know me — I’m a sucker for a classic. You remember my old crew chief, right? Figures it’d take a classic like Doc to make me park it and “appreciate the greats” — old flicks like Thunder Road, Two-Lane Blacktop… and at the top of my faves? GRAND PRIX. I mean, come on! You’ve got a killer international cast and some of the best shots with real racers I’ve ever seen in a movie. Every year, New Year’s Day rolls around, and it’s the first movie I throw on, like clockwork. Now THAT’S how you start things moving!"

Not AHS but watchable.

So it wasn't American Horror Story, but it was still in the ballpark. Grusome, gory and glorious. Where AHS was at times, scary or possibly jumpy, Ratched was more, do I feel bad for these deranged orphans or not? The answer is. No. You don't. She's a psychopath who seems to gets off on pain but disguises it as health care, and he is a literal killer, who despite his good looks, is the devil incarnate. This is by no means a bad thing. I actually really enjoyed it. Especially the backstories and seeing the different illnesses be 'cured. Very good, would recommend to fans of AHS.

Book Favorite

"One of my all-time favorite novels is Crime And Punishment. I read it in high school, and for some terrifying reason, I really identified with Raskolnikov. It's so funny, because he sort of behaves amorally, but he has an incredible sense of right and wrong. Obviously, I couldn't identify with him as a killer, but I could understand what it means to know that something's wrong but do it anyway. I was 17 when I read it, and the feeling of having betrayed one's sense of right and wrong — and then living with the consequences — was something that I could completely identify with."

Black Rain (1989)

Cold Case
Black Rain- is a good action film. Micheal Douglas was good in it. Ridley Scott directed it.

The plot: New York City policemen Nick (Michael Douglas) and Charlie (Andy Garcia) witness a murder in a bar and quickly apprehend the assailant. The killer, named Sato (Yusaku Matsuda), is a member of Japan's infamous Yakuza mob, and Nick and Charlie must transport the gangster back to Osaka for his murder trial. There, Sato's fellow gangsters free him from police custody, forcing Nick and Charlie to scour Japan's dangerous underworld of organized crime in search of their fugitive.

Watch it if you want to.

"Then along those same lines, probably in the same conversations where my dad said, “You’re gonna watch Braveheart,” he said, “You’re gonna watch Gladiator.” I think it’s just maybe the crazy world setting. It is so big and far-fetched and out there, but the characters are just so real and intimate, and Russell [Crowe] is just so great in that movie. I think it’s the combination of those two things that was the first thing that stabs me. I remember just the image of the hand in the wheat and how beautiful it is. The whole movie’s really beautiful. Those shots are killer."

Cool 90's feel to it (1 more)
Good soundtrack
Stranger Things meets Slasher
Part one of this Horror trilogy on Netflix doesn't disappoint. Seems like it's been a good while since we had a decent modern slasher film. This feels like a 90's horror, and does well to set the scene for '94. It starts with a great pre title scene similar to films like Scream. The killer outfits look good, another very Scream like. The film slows in pace a little towards the end but overall it's very enjoyable. A long with a decent 90's soundtrack to top it off. Roll on part 2 next week.
