Leanne Crabtree (480 KP) rated Dance with the Devil (Dark-Hunter #3) in Books
Jan 6, 2021
Zarek was a big mystery to me after the last book and I wanted to see what type of woman would get through to him. And lo and behold, it was Astrid! I loved delving into his history and seeing his inner thoughts. He wasn't the completely grumpy loner that he came across as, he was actually a really lonely guy that didn't feel like he was wanted or liked by anyone after a painful past. I so felt for him. And so did Astrid, who managed to melt his hard exterior to see the soft, gentle guy beneath.
There are still a lot of unanswered questions in regards to Acheron, he seems to be some sort of demi-god/Atlantean/god killer hybrid that scares even Artemis. Cannot wait to read his story.

LeftSideCut (3778 KP) rated Slaxx (2020) in Movies
Mar 24, 2021
Slaxx is one of those horrors that is a pretty fun one off watch.
It's so so silly, but is admirably and solidly executed. The practical effects of the killer jeans are a blast and really make the whole movie enjoyable. It has a decent amount of gore, and a pretty good cast. Final girl Romane Denis plays a down to earth and likable protagonist and I can appreciate the movies' attempts to poke fun at YouTube culture.
The narrative is standard slasher style, but it does have some sort of ethical message buried in there somewhere, although it's a bit too half arsed to make an impact.
Overall, Slaxx is a fun time, and is wonderfully bizzare. I predict it will have a cult following before long!

Different direction for Saw (1 more)
Gore fans will be happy
I want to play a game
This seems to have come out of nowhere, or I'm just well behind with up coming releases. A detective story from the Saw universe.
Chris Rock, a little hard to view as a homicide detective, is working a case of a potential copycat killer of Saw targeting dirty cops. There is plenty of blood and gore in the traps as you expect, although they are less centre stage this time.
It's a decent mix of a cop thriller with the Saw traps twist thrown in. Although the ending was a little abrupt for me. Overall a decent film that will keep Saw fans happy while moving in a different direction.

Kevin Phillipson (10017 KP) rated Hell Night (1981) in Movies

It's been a while since I last watched this movie back in the late 80s late night tv and liking it back then. And now I've seen it a second time first time on blu ray in the UK from 101 and its just as I remember the first time for me the star of the movie for me is Linda Blair far removed from the exorcist for me it's her best role playing an older character and it works with support from Peter Barton as her love interest there are some good kills in the movie liked the way they kept the killer in the shadows never knowing where he's hiding. Must watch the extras next to see the cast and crew remember the film
Matthew Krueger (10051 KP) rated Urban Legend (1998) in Movies
May 8, 2021 (Updated May 8, 2021)
The Legends Come True
Urban Legend- is a really good movie. I love the concept/plot of the film. The cast is really good plus it has cameoes from horror icons: Robert Englund, Brad Dourif and Danielle Harris.
The plot; A university is beset by a rash of gruesome murders that resemble old urban legends. When her friend Michelle (Natasha Gregson Wagner) is killed by someone hiding in her car, Natalie (Alicia Witt) begins to notice the pattern. Her suspicions grow stronger when her own roommate is strangled to death. Soon the quiet college campus is transformed into hunting grounds for a maniac, and Natalie struggles to find the killer and stop the bloodshed before she becomes the next victim.
Its a really good film and highly recordmend it.

Kristina (502 KP) rated Stalker (Stalker, #1) in Books
Dec 7, 2020
I honestly don't know what happened here. I stumbled across Stalker by accident, a pretty long while after I'd read the prequel, Killer. I had really enjoyed the prequel, so I decided to read its follow-up. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed. It was poorly written, Phoenix was more annoying than he was hot - in a taboo kind of way, and there was so much repetition I wanted to pull my hair out. Literally, here are just a few words that were repeated no less than 10 times throughout the whole book: "mumble, muse, squeal, thump/thumping". I persevered because the beginning said the ending would not be happy one and I was wanting to see if I had guessed correctly. I was wrong and was also disappointed in the ending.
