"When I was first living in Los Angeles. I was in love with a French girl, now my wife, and I became immersed in the way her culture viewed life. There was a different set of priorities at work, a value of simplicity and pure ingredients, both in the food and the filmmaking. This film blew my mind. The cast is all children. It contains one of the great suspense sequences of all time: a toddler climbing out an apartment window trying to reach a kitten while his mother talks on the phone, ignorant to the tragedy at hand. Another vignette follows an older boy teaching a younger boy how to pick up girls. Very French, but so honest and pure. I remember watching the extras on the DVD of A Man and a Woman, another great film. The crew consisted of a handheld Bolex and a sound recordist, mostly natural light. Everything was in the eyes, the body language — just two people learning each other. It informed the way I made Safety Not Guaranteed. Stripped down, but not messy or ugly. Clear and audible sound, like what your ears would capture if you were there. Intimate. Real. The best."

WHAT HE FINDS is the second book in the Desires: New Beginnings series but it can be read as a standalone, as I did. We meet with Quentin and Toby, two men who work in the same building. Toby has liked Quentin for months but hasn't made a move. Quentin has seen him but didn't think anything of it until Toby buys him a sandwich before it runs out.

This is a low-angst book with cinnamon roll main characters. Both of them have hang-ups from their pasts - Toby because he felt as though he pushed his college boyfriend away by being too needy, and Quentin by being too controlling. Put them together and you have an inexperienced sub who knows what he likes but is prepared to experiment and a Dom who knows exactly what to do to make his kitten shine. Although Toby has to deal with the death of his college ex, there is no real drama here.

A thoroughly enjoyable book I read in one sitting. I definitely recommend it and would read more in this series and by this author.

Tink is sweet, silly, spoiled and oh, so fluffy. My nephew's girlfriend adopted her as a kitten and she lived with them and their daughter for the first 3 years of her life. When they moved to a new place that didn't allow pets, she came to live with me. It took her a while to find her place but she does pretty well. She knows she is lived and she is very well-fed and lives in comfort. She loves to snack on human food and comes running if she hears a bag or wrapper being opened. She isn't fond of being held and only allows a small amount of affection. She'd kind of a dork but a precious one. She loves playing with her fake mouse, throwing them in the air and catching them or chasing them. She has the highest meow when she does that. Whenever my boyfriend or I leave the house, she meows a little but calms down when she's reassured we will return. She's scared of storms and vacuums and goes into hiding until they're over. Kira is the brave one who isn't affected by those. She and Kira try to play together but they can't quite get it right. They're a little wary of each other and don't know whether the other is playing or fighting. I hope they learn how to play someday. Think occasional licks Kira's head or they touch noses, so there's hope.
