Catrin Quinn is still reeling from the loss of her two sons nearly three years ago. Her grief and anger is exacerbated by the fact that Catrin blames her (now former) best friend, Rachel, for their deaths. Catrin lives on the isolated community of the Falkland Islands, where people generally know one another - and everyone's business. When several children go missing over a short period of time, even the tight-knit community must admit that something is going on. Catrin finds herself drawn into the search for the latest missing boy, despite the fact that she just wishes to wallow in her grief as the third anniversary of her sons' death approaches.

This was a great book - I love all of Bolton's Lacey Flint novels, but this standalone is excellent, too. It's told from the varying viewpoints of three people - Catrin, her ex-best friend Rachel, and Catrin's acquaintance, Callum, a former solider who was once stationed on the island. Bolton goes back and forth over a short time period, slowly unraveling events, first from Catrin, then Callum, and finally Rachel. It's a mesmerizing approach, as we try to decipher how much to trust each of our narrators. During each character's turn, I found myself completely enthralled and wrapped up in their life. I eventually stayed up far too late the final night, frantically finishing the book to find out what happened. Bolton has created yet another fascinating mystery that will have you guessing the entire time.

(Note: I received an ARC from Netgalley in return for an unbiased review.)

Christian
In June of 1985, Caroline Painter's uncle whisks her away from her island home at Painter Place to film an art video in the harbor village of Mevagissey. But instead of clearing her head, the young artist becomes entangled in adventure on the English Channel when she influences a rock star's contract and the media launches her into fame. When she returns home, she discovers a shattering secret that makes her question everything in her life. Can she trust the only one who says he understands?

My Thoughts: This is a wonderful story of a close-knit family. Living in an idyllic southern island setting. This is a story that is about trust, honesty, and purity. It's about our Christian character.

Caroline Painter is a talented young woman whose family has lived on the island since her relatives left England in the early 1600's. In the author's debut novel, she has given the reader an excellent reading experience. The story-line is full of wonderful characters that the reader will love, she brings the readers into the story with wonderful characters and lots of emotion. This is certainly a fairy tale story; with fast expensive cars and gifts, but one that the readers will love.

I appreciated when Caroline gave her testimony for Christ in the story which led others to Christ. The painter family has strong beliefs that they stand for, and value the rich family character.

I enjoyed this book, and look forward to reading the next books in the series!

Fell good and heart warming (0 more)
I loved this book. It was so heart warming and such a feel good book. I liked the characters and the community they live in. It is so close knit.
This was a romance but this was not just focused on that as there were friendships made and family aspects.
I loved this book from the first page. I couldn't put it down, I just wanted to keep reading.
The only 2 parts of the book which didn't make sense was when both Maeve and Phil were in the pub for the first time. They were offered a seat inside by the window or outside and they chose to sit inside by the window. The band then started to play and Phil suggested they go inside so they can see the band better but they were already in the pub. The second part was in Paschal's bookshop for the first time. The books Maeve bought came to 5 euros and Maeve put down a 5 euro note and then Paschal handed her change, even though she gave him the correct money.
This book made me smile and I wanted to get to know this community.
The characters definitely changed and grew throughout the book. Phil got stronger, Paschal opened himself up Maeve stood up for herself.
It was your typical romance, feel good book but I still loved it.
I actually have the other books, in the series, in my list to read.
I would recommend this book to anyone wanting.
