Hannah Dexter has led a fairly mundane life in the small town of Battle Creek, where everyone knows everyone else and everything that happens to everyone. But her life is turned upside town by two events: the suicide of a local boy, Craig, and the arrival of a new girl, Lacey, who quickly becomes the town's resident bad girl. Hannah and Lacey unite over their hatred of the town's "it girl" Nikki Drummond. Lacey transforms Hannah into Dex--a darker version of Hannah--who adores Lacey and Kurt Cobain's music (this is the early '90s after all). But Hannah doesn't realize that Lacey is hiding a secret from her, a pretty big one, which threatens to destroy the very fabric their friendship is based on.

"Girls on Fire" is an oddly captivating and compelling novel. The story unfolds before you and you're powerless to stop the events as they occur. It's told mainly from the alternating points of view of Lacey and Hannah, and we slowly learn about the events that led to their friendship and its aftermath-- and also Craig's suicide. The book wasn't a particularly fast read for me, but it was fascinating. It's an accident where you can't look away, even though you know something horrible will happen. This book is dark and disastrous and makes you afraid to ever send your children off to high school.

Parts of the novel are a bit cliched (it's almost too dark, too awful) but it doesn't stop it from being intriguing and captivating. It pulls you in to Lacey and Hannah's world and as time somehow moves forward, yet we learn about what happened to Craig in the past, Wasserman does an amazing job of unfurling her plot. I was drawn to the book and the characters. Tragic Lacey, confused Hannah, evil queen Nikki: you can see them so clearly in your head. The book almost casts a spell over you as it sucks you into its world. The writing is intense, the storyline is intense, and you're left almost breathless at the end. I didn't really enjoy the book, per se, but I appreciated it. It's a wild ride, a dark one, and definitely one worth taking.

I received an advanced copy of this novel from Edelweiss (thank you!); it is available everywhere on 5/17/2016.

Crave is the second book in the Blood Moon, Texas Shifters series and we continue with Dallas and Lacey. They were teenage sweethearts but when Dallas managed to 'infect' Lacey with the werewolf gene, even on a time when it should have been impossible, both of their lives changed.

Lacey's mother had her memory taken, just like Ellie in the last book, but it has left her with paranoia and memory loss. Some of the things she finds on the internet made me chuckle! Because of this, Lacey and Dallas can't be 'together' even though they are still best friends. Both of them suffered during their separation and, really, it's hard to say who had it worst!

In this one, you get a great insight into the family dynamics as well the relationship between Ethan and Dallas. I found those scenes incredibly well-written and it made my heart hurt for both of them.

Told from the first perspective from both Dallas and Lacey, this was just as fast-paced as Dark, with some serious fang-head action going on. I am loving the overall story arc and can't wait to continue with the series. Absolutely recommended by me.

* A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book, and the comments here are my honest opinion. *

Wow! For such a short piece of writing, this one packs a punch!

Loose ends from A Dark and Twisted Tide are tied up, we get an insider peek at Joesbury's undercover world, and the Lacey/Mark drama is propelled massively forward.

The wait for the next installment is going to seem interminable!

If this had been the first Lacey Flint novel I read, honestly, I may have given it another star. The only reason I deducted is because I felt like it pulled too far away from the Flint and Joesbury storyline. But it laid some interesting groundwork that I hope will have been used in the next one.

I loved this one! The previous Lacey Flint novels have kept me guessing, and I'm always wrong. So this time, I thought outside the box and was sure I had it figured out. Wrong! I love that Bolton keeps me on my toes!

In spite of the fact that Joesbury is largely absent from this book, the Mark/Lacey storyline features more prominently than it did in Lost (or Like This, For Ever, depending which edition you read). I was really missing it in the last book so I was happy to see more of it this time around.

Finally, Thessa's character is well-written and beautifully portrayed. I fell in love with her straight away.

I've got Here Be Dragons next on my reading list and I have high hopes for it. Still, I can't wait for the next full-length novel in this series!

This is actually the fifth book in the series (with a novella making an additional story) of mysteries featuring Captain Lacey - and a thoroughly enjoyable series it has been too! The books are well written with myserties that you can follow but are full of twists and turns and red herrings. There is also a great cast of recurring characters in support. The mysteries are set in Regency England, mainly in London. If you enjoyed any of CS Harris' Sebastian St Cyr books I think you will also enjoy the Captain Lacey mysteries.

My only regret is that I've read my way through the series so far and that the next book is not yet available in a Kindle edition, as it promises to tie up some of the issues in Gabriel's personal life that have come to light over the series! Anyone looking to download these books onto their Kindle is also getting a bargain as the price is fantastic!
