I was vaguely - but only vaguely - aware of the Netflix series based on this particular series, although I'd never read any of said books nor seen any of that series.
Having finished all four books in the aforementioned Bartimaeus series (a trilogy plus a prequel), I thought I'd pick this up on a whim.
It took me a fair while after doing so to actually get around to reading it; what I eventually found (once I did) was a thoroughly enjoyable so-called 'Young Adult' read, that also has a bit of a bite in it - here, ghosts are more frightening and a threat than they seem to be more commonly portrayed as in modern media.
Think "The Lady in White" from one of the early Supernatural episodes, rather than Casper.

A compelling read at times but certainly not scary. Or at least to me. Well written with a couple of amusing surreal moments but it was difficult to feel much for our leading lady. She really does make some questionable decisions. Also, it is a book of two halves. The second half (3 Years Later) is enjoyable enough but possibly unnecessary/unneeded?
Overall a very good read but not one I would feel the urge to read again.

Alana and Will have just married after their life is turned upside down and they are forced to grow up rather quickly. Will finds himself a job in Blidworth working as the forester for Lady Cecily. They are met with challenges as well as friends that become family a fantastically written book with lots of character.
I found this book enthralling from start to finish. A different side to Robin Hood and his crew but a fun story in the process. There were battles but nothing too harsh. I found as I read everything just flowed there was no getting confused as to who was doing what with whom and where. I could not put it down from start to finish I was interested in what the characters were doing on their journeys in life.
A lovely read highly recommended 5/5
