So I chose Lady Chatterley's Lover by Mr D.H Lawrence. Lady Chatterley's lover was a book created by Lawrence created in 1928. He had the book published privately in Italy and France but boy did he kick up a fuss. The book was subsequently banned in the UK, Australia, Canada, the US and India. There were outcries of the lewd nature of the book, the frank talk about sex and intimacy and extra-marital affairs. In 1960, a trial was held in the UK and the book was released from its ban.

While reading this, I tried to understand why this book was considered so obscene. I mean we have 50 shades of grey which didn't have any fingers pointed at it and that book discusses more unique sex forms. This book discussed pure 'vanilla' sex between a man and a woman. So what was the issue?

Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence (1983)
Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence (1983)
1983 | Drama, War

"A story about compassion and forgiveness set in a World War II Japanese prison camp, Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence seems to improve with age and repeated viewings. The screenplay, by Nagisa Oshima and Paul Mayersberg, based on a book by Laurens van der Post, is oblique, brutal, poignant. Tom Conti, David Bowie, and Takeshi Kitano all give first-rate performances, and Ryuichi Sakamoto’s score is heartbreaking. The last five minutes never fail to destroy me"

There are certain films that split audiences straight down the centre. Just look at @Mother! (2017) Darren Aronofsky’s Jennifer Lawrence-starring psychological horror that saw some critics awarded five-stars and others just one.

Using data from Metacritic, tech website Gizmodo has taken date from 9516 films, gathering details from 190,000 reviews by at least 842 named critics to scientifically work out the world’s most critically divisive films. So which films did you love and hate?

Gizmodo UK has analysed data on Metacritics to determine the most divisive films ever:

Great dystopian world
I read this book some years ago, but it's one of those that kind of sticks with you. Especially in the crazy, chaotic world that we live in now, since around November 2016. This is the beginning of a dystopian trilogy that spawned a 4 part movie saga starring Jennifer Lawrence. If you haven't seen the movies, you should. They are pretty great and so are the books.

Great Sfx
Interesting idea
It's nice to see a story of how Magneto, Xavier and Mystique etc came to know each other. Also to see how the X-Men came to be. I like the way it's tied into real events in History. The action scenes are great and the Sfx are top notch. A very enjoyable film.

PLEASE Don’t Watch
At first I was so excited to see this movie, but I have to say this is one of the absolute WORST movies I have ever seen. The entire movie is a mixture of “what is going on?” and “why are they doing that?” I pretty much felt angry the entire movie. Definitely a letdown considering how much I love Jennifer Lawrence and her movies. This makes my top 5 most hated movies.

David McK (3222 KP) rated Cobra Kai - Season Five in TV

Cobra Kai - Season Five
2022 | Action
Cobra Kai never dies!
Season 5(!) of the Karate Kid 'continuation' (for want of a better word), picking up after the events of last season and with Danny LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence finally burying the hatchet to attempt to stop Cobra Kai, which has now been taken over (yet again) by a different figure from LaRusso's past.

I'm beginning to wonder who's left!

(Oh, and best character this season? For me, Chozen. Hands down)

High production values
Not that original (0 more)
I haven't read the book so I can't compare to that. It's a well made film with a big production and talented cast. Tiny bit surprised at being a 12a rating, it's basically teenagers fighting to the death by killing each other off! Also a theme similar to many films, @Insurgent (2015) Battle Royale, @The Condemned (2007) . So not that original but decent enough to check it out.

"You know, I could just totally mix it up and be honest. It’s not Lawrence of Arabia, but I’ve got to be me. I think I’m going to have to say Singles. After college, I moved to Seattle with my boyfriend, who is now my husband. We moved to Seattle and it was awesome and I loved it. I danced in really crappy, dirty, disgusting clubs and had the time of my life. And I did a bunch of plays."
