"Julia Child wrote, “One of the secrets, and pleasures, of cooking is to learn to correct something if it goes awry; and one of the lessons is to grin and bear it if it cannot be fixed.” Learning from our mistakes is one of the most important things we do, in and out of the kitchen. I’ve made many along the way and it’s an important reminder that we can accept them and treat them as an opportunity to grow. "

"Having come to music production via electronic music first, I had to go back at some point and try and figure out how to write songs. Learning how to do so involved picking apart my favourite songs, including this piece of perfect concision. It’s a great reminder that those artists like Wire who pushed forward the boundaries of the avant-garde are by no means exempted from writing a perfect pop song every once in a while, when it strikes their fancy."

"Eddie Murphy was so appropriate. Comedy is the magic of learning to be appropriate. In terms of his performance, he was so damn appropriate. He knew when to play what, and he let the situation lead him into being broad. Because of the situation, he did what he had to do, he was Bugs Bunny talking his way out of situations. That for me is another movie that I would like to do, it made me say, “Damn, I wanna do that.”"

"Then, I don’t know… Now I’ve got to start flipping coins. Should I say, The Godfather, or do I say Platoon, you know? Both incredibly influential films on me as well. The Godfather is such an interesting film in that it does a lot of things to establish character in place in a way that’s so economical. You don’t realize that you’re being given information; you don’t realize that you’re learning. It was one of the best-directed films of all time."

Huh.

Owen, Owen, Owen...

I enjoyed this one, learning more about Owen's history with Kincaid and how he grew up. What I wasn't so fond of was Salina and her history with him. I swear, if she'd managed to steal him away from Gin I may have stopped reading this series in anger. But all worked out well-ish.

I can't wait to read the next one! And if things don't work out then my last status update stands true.
