From Broadway to big screen
Rock of ages takes us on the story of a small town girl who is living in a lonely world, who comes to the bright light big city of Los Angeles only to get robbed and have to work at one of the most famous bars on the strip. This movie follows her story about life in the big city and living amonungst rock and roll during the 80's. She is up, she is down, and rises to top again but not in the way you think.

On Broadway Dee Snyder from Twisted sister played the lead character of Stacy Jaxx the famed rock and roller, who is drunk but is so popular who cares right. Our switch to Tom Cruise to film was not the right person to sing. He can act but, if we remember top gun lets be real.

Other major actors and singers who grace the silver screen in this movie are

Alec, Baldwin, Russel Brand, Catherine Zeta Jones, Julianne Hough and Mar J Blige.

The music and sound track were worth seeing the movie especially if you saw it on Broadway but this was yet another way to let america get to see a show that was only in NY.

Yet again, Mr Cavanagh has written a belter ... definitely one of my reads of 2021 so far and one I can't recommend highly enough and even though this is number 6 in the series, don't let that put you off because you can absolutely read and enjoy this delight as a standalone.

I am a fan of Mr Cavanagh's incarnation of Eddie Flynn having read a couple of his previous outings but, I have to say, this is the best one I have read so far - an absolute peach of a story that had me on tenterhooks and devouring the pages as quick as my little eyes could manage.

With excellent characters, fantastic plot and side plots, perfect setting and pace, the right amount of twists and thrills, I have no hesitation in recommending this to anyone who loves a great thriller.

What are you waiting for? Go get it!

Many thanks to The Orion Publishing Group and NetGalley for providing me with an advance copy in return for an honest, unbiased and unedited review.

As a big fan of action I always look for a film that really holds your attention as well as capture the imagination. We all know that there is a sense of unbelievability that is needed for some action films, and The Raid will certainly check those two points off the list.

The film follows Rama (Uwais) a rookie cop who is part of a S.W.A.T team sent into a tower block to bring down drug lord Tama (Sahetapy), who is holed up surrounded by a army of psychopathic knife wielding maniacs. This is a man that is not to be messed with as we see him viciously execute five men at close range. When he runs out of bullets on the last man we think he’ll let him go. Not so, as he goes to the desk draw, in it are a couple of bullets and a hammer….he takes the hammer.

Meanwhile as the team arrive at the building it’s clear that they are not going to get it all their own way as the majority of them are picked off one by one leaving only a few survivors trapped on the seventh floor. With seemingly nowhere to go, the small band of brothers agree to finish what they started, and go get Tama. The action is explosive, right from the moment the cops set foot inside the carnage begins and doesn’t really let itself catch breath for the 90 minutes.

The fight scenes in-particular are brilliantly choreographed, the climatic fight at the end just seems to keep going and going. A lot of work has gone into getting them just right, in fact the character Mad Dog who is played by Yayan Ruhian had a big part to play in orchestrating them.

There might be the risk that seeing one Indonesian getting the shit kicked out of them one after another may become boring, but that is not the case. Director Gareth Evans has immersed us fully in the action, with wide angled shots giving us a a beautiful picture to look at.

It’s a fully enjoyable film that will have you wincing in pleasure, there must be something about the tower block that attracts, but Evans has taken the action genre to great heights with this one.

Bloodmage was a continuation of the story began in Battlemage, with an almost completely new set of characters. There were a few old favorites that were back, but a myriad of new friends to meet as well. The story jumped right in and carried you fast-paced all the way to the end (save a few chapters that dragged a little, but weren’t super slow). It ends in a way that opens up the world to many more adventures in the future.

There wasn’t quite as much a focus on the religion as there was in the first book Battlemage, nor was there as much detail on the essence and mechanism behind the magic. I was hoping for a little more insight into the relm and world of this series. Still, it was satisfactory and fun, adventuresome, and just dark enough to keep me interested.

All in all, fun and interesting, it kept me reading, but a little bit of a let-down because I expected more after the first one was so amazing.

Your standard sports doc - and if there's anyone in the sporting world right now who *isn't* standard, it's Conor McGregor. The general rule of thumb I use for these is whether or not it's more insightful than what I can find from ~10 minutes of research, this is not. For following this guy around for 4+ years you'd think there would be something under the hood but there isn't a single for-the-doc interview in this - just a broken collage of quick 5/10 second conversations that rush right past anything half interesting. I swear this is like 90% B-roll footage. Seems like it's in such a hurry to be another generic, surface-level rags-to-riches documentary for people going into this already knowing they're going to love it. I'm not saying you have to deflate the guy's ego, I like the guy - but if you're going to make a puff piece like this at least make it a good one. It would be so easy to sit back and just let this unique, caustic, energetic performer breathe rather than cutting his screen time to shreds - let it be 3 hours who gives a shit? Would have much preferred a 90+ YouTube compilation of his famed trash talk + fight footage over this "the world isn't going to stop me!" snooze. Should have been a miniseries.

This film didn't sit right with me from the start with Poes mum joke from there it got worse, surface canons meant for defence not being able to hit a x wing, come on! I'd have got rid of the slapstick humour for a start, got rid of Kylo and Reys whatsapp messenger because that was shite, added a training section with Luke and Rey, got rid of the bit where Rey nearly goes one woman accapella beat boxing band in the cave, let Leia die in space because the Mary Poppins bit was already done by marvel and it would've been a good send off, would have made Snoke more formidable as he had a cheap death, give Finn and Rose a better story arc as it felt purely engineered to give them something to do rather than add to the story, made the battle with Snokes guard harder, let Luke and Kylo actually face off with sabres and echo Obi Wans death..... that's just off the top of my head after only seeing it once sure there's plenty more I'd change.
