In Which I Finally Start This Series
Lindsey Norris is settling into her new life as the director of the public library in Briar Creek, Connecticut. One of her many joys is working alongside her best friend Beth Stanley, the children's librarian. Unfortunately, Lindsey has never warmed to Beth's boyfriend Rick Eckman, and spending more time with him doesn't change that at all. So, Lindsey isn't upset when the two break up. However, Beth gets some surprising news about Rick the next day just before she finds his body. It's obvious that Rick has been killed. With the police certain that Beth is guilty, Lindsey springs into action to clear her best friend. Can she do it?
I'm finally getting around to starting this series, but I've loved the other books from Jenn McKinlay I've read. I pretty much knew what to expect here, and I was right. We get a fantastic cast of characters that I already can't wait to spend more time with. The setting, both the library and the town, are charming as well. I'd move to this town is it weren't for the murder rate (and the fact that it's fictional). There is a bit of series set up that slows things down at the beginning, but the mystery is very strong once it gets started. I was surprised by some of the twists along the way. I also laughed several times along the way, and part of the climax made me want to cheer.

This starts with Lexi and some of the crew heading up a mountain in the hopes of recruiting a strong rock/stone giant to their crew as they gear up to appear at the Magical Summit in a few months time where Kieran will hope to become the recognised Demigod of San Francisco. Kieran doesn't know where she's heading and they're all hoping to get the giant on side before he realises. Then a ghost who used to be a spirit walker gives Alexis details of someone else who'd be good for the team and they head out after him, too. There's also the issue of Lydia, a Demigod of Egypt, who has invited them to her territory after being caught sneaking around their property. Kieran is hoping for an alliance with her so they go.
I do still really love this group of people. They are one big extended family that look after each other and compliment each others abilities magically. The new additions are great characters and I quickly grew to like both of them. I loved watching them all kick arse in this at the end. I was willing them on and grinning like an idiot at times.
There was a little twist/surprise at the end revolving around Magnus, Lexi's dad, that has me intrigued to see what might go down in the last book at the magical summit, so I'm off to go borrow it from the KU Library.

Stalking Lindsey
It all starts innocently enough. Lindsey Norris is more than happy to help out Aaron Grady when he walks into the library asking for help with his roses. But when he begins to show up with roses to offer to her as a thank you, she begins to grow concerned. Despite repeated confrontations, Aaron doesn’t take no for an answer and shows up in places he doesn’t belong. Until he turns up dead behind the library. Lindsey’s fiancé, Sully, quickly becomes the prime suspect. Lindsey knows that Sully wouldn’t have killed Aaron despite the growing evidence. So, what is really going on?
This book is definitely a cozy with a thriller edge to it. It worked for this fan, and kept me glued to the book until I reached the very end. I did have a problem with how a couple of minor characters reacted to Lindsey’s situation, mainly because I found it unbelievable given their position. Then again, maybe it’s just wishful thinking that they’d react like I would in that situation. I did feel things were slowing down a tad at one point, but then the plot kicked into high gear and didn’t slow down again. All the series characters are here and are just as charming as usual. The new characters fit in well. We have the usual assortment of extras at the end of the book. This may be a more serious book, but we get some humor, and the two were balanced perfectly. Once again, this is a book that fans will enjoy.
