Rolling Stone's 495th greatest album of all time
This is only album number 6 on my trek towards listening to all 500 of Rolling Stone's greatest albums. Already I am wishing I had opted for the NME's top 500 instead, as this really isn't my bag. But the main reason I am doing this is to find hidden gems I had never heard before, which is more likely to happen listening to RS than NME.
The album title was one that stuck in my head because it really made me start to think about giving it up, coming hot on the heels of Boz Scagg's album. The 10 song mix of country and jazz really seemed to take forever to pass. There were some more bluesy songs that were listenable, but the majority not to my tastes at all.

"Pasteur Lappé is a guy from Cameroon who was making music in the late ’70s, and “Sanaga Calypso” was on this collection of experimental African funk music. The first time I heard this song, it reminded me so much of the Clash’s Sandinista! The Clash were obviously influenced by dub and reggae, and they paid homage to those styles very openly and respectfully, but to hear something that reminded me of a song like “Charlie Don’t Surf”—dancey, soulful, very beautiful, and kind of elegiac—it just made me smile. I literally said, “Joe Strummer for sure heard this song!” I like building a small lineage between my own listening experience and the listening experience of somebody I’ve been inspired by, and that’s what this song does for me. It puts me back in the sphere of influence. And it’s catchy."

"At this point I was playing in a hardcore band, I was listening to hardcore, I was going to hardcore shows, and at a certain point it started get a bit old for me. This album showed me a way of being intense and meaningful and indeed heavy without distorted guitars and taking your shirt off and screaming at the front row. It planted a seed which, when Million Dead broke up, flourished into what I do now There was also a simplicity to it, because I had got into the complicated end of hardcore and bands like Dillinger Escape Plan and Botch, and there was something about simple chords on an acoustic guitar that reminded me of listening to Counting Crows. It was powerful to me. It planted a seed which, when Million Dead broke up, flourished into what I do now."

I like this app. There are pictures and word matching activities, you translate to and from your native language from written words and by listening to a recording, and it records you speaking to get practice that way too. It's set up to just do a little bit each day so you don't feel overwhelmed, or you can do as much as you want.

This album has so many different sounds and rhythms. I couldn’t stop listening to it. (0 more)
Some of the songs will get overplayed in the radio but that is standard for pop. (0 more)

I was happily surprised that the entire album was so original and great to listen too. I was surprised that almost everyone at work listened to it without any complaint (that rarely happens)!

This album has a very wide variety of songs that compliment one another (0 more)
This album, with its many tracks, has songs with a variety of emotions. Some invoke feelings of nostalgia, while others a sense ofdetermination. Another noteworthy point is that some of the songs here deal with mental and social issues, which doesn't appear often in songs. Overall, it's something worth listening to.

Flimsy story, almost comedic
While this story was extremely engaging for its genre and content, it started off with the mystery of a psychological thriller and ended up becoming like a 1970's hammer horror. It couldn't hold itself in the end and the description of the "thing" reminded me of a Sam Raimi style boring gorefest. A bit of a disappointment after 14 hours of listening.

song meaning
This album spoke to me in so many different ways. When it came out, I had just gone through a bad break up and so when I heard songs like Ruin and Mercy, it felt like he was singing about my pain. I believe that music is very therapeutic so listening to this album helped me get through this tough time.

Binge Worthy
The story telling is amazing. It is hosted by Christopher Goffard from the L.A.Times. The story telling had me on the edge of my seat. I had not read any of the reporting before listening. I could not wait to find out what happened. I binged it in three days.
