I received a complimentary copy in exchange for a review.

The good thing about anthologies is that if you don’t like the story you are reading, you can move on to the next one. Unfortunately, I found myself doing that a lot with this anthology. I requested it because it showcases a culture I am apart of. I go to cons, I read comics books, and play video games. I even have a twitch account where I stream.

But this just wasn’t what I was looking for. Out of all the stories, I only enjoyed a couple. I felt that many of the characters and situations were cliché and stereotypical. While I understand that those type of people and situations exist, I felt that each story was a repeat of the others. When I say “those people” and “those situations”, I am talking about the anti-social, socially awkward people who are sensitive and easily hurt.

I understand, I get it. Those people need representation, too. But these weren’t the people I wanted to read about. I wanted to read about the happy, friendly, quirky people you can’t help but love. The people who are unapologetic in their love of all things nerdy regardless of what that includes. Most of the protagonists in their stories were fragile and delicate. It seems that every protagonists I read about has been hurt before and is resolved to not love again.

It’s an old tired trope. I wish I would have enjoyed it more. I loathe writing negative reviews, but reading this anthology just frustrated me.

How do I even begin to review one of Aleatha's books?! I can't wait for the next book the moment I've begun and the end always comes too soon!? Deception is book three in the five-book Infidelity series. This book, like the previous two, kept me on edge from page one. Not only do I love that she gives you a glimpse back into the prior books in the beginning (which is great for someone like me who has probably read hundreds since reading Cunning and needs the reminder of where we last left off) but she gives you just enough to hang onto before leaving your heart on the floor after a cliffhanger ending!? And I love every minute of it ;-) After where they started, Nox and Charli's relationship has grown into something more spectacular than you could imagine and I loved seeing them in this next phase. Beautiful moments, hot sex scenes and plenty of added drama and action. Her books are everything, so much more than just a love story... HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommended and as usual, I CAN NOT wait for book #4 so she can do it to me all over again!?

Loved the book it it kept me hooked for the entirety.

I loved the way you saw the story from everyone's point of view. Each chapter opened a new door on the memories that Rachel couldn't quite remember, even if the chapter wasn't hers.

Throughout you hope that things didn't end the way they do.

The only bad bit I found was the ending due to the suspense throughout once you worked out the killer it had a bit of a drag. It also had such a dull end which is a shame as a whole the book is fantastic and kept me gripped. This is my personal opinion on the ending as I have spoken to others who loved it so maybe it's like marmite: you either love it or hate it.

Still minus the end it's a five star thriller.

Album Favorite

"R.Kelly’s Chocolate Factory. I went back and forth with some of these albums because I really like Double Up for whatever reason, it was just something I spun for three months straight. I could just turn it up in the car and drive around. It was just a big album. You know, kind of ridiculous, kind of big in scope. But Chocolate Factory, you just throw that album on, and from beginning to end it’s pretty sick. Do you want to listen to ‘Step In The Name Of Love’ and crank that up? Or, he’ll break it down with ‘Dream Girl.’ That’s a song you can put on a mix for your girl or whatever and she’ll come over and you’ll have a pretty good afternoon. ‘Ignition” is on there, the remix. I played “Dream Girl” at my wedding during cocktail hour."

Story: Whenever you get opposites collide you will see sparks fly in a love story. This has a good message for the teenage audience who believe being popular can make you different when it is the people around you that you ignore that make the difference in people’s lives. The story shows how powerful love is and once you first feel it, it can be so hard to stop the feeling. (8/10)

Actor Review: Shane West – Landon the bad boy of the school who falls for the outsider. Shane is a good in the lead role showing how letting someone you’re your life can change you forever. (8/10)

 landon

Actor Review: Mandy Moore – Jamie the outsider who goes to church and everything Landon dislikes. Good performance playing the role trying to avoid a romance but in the end it becomes the best thing to ever happen to her. (8/10)

Chances of Tears: Pretty high chance. (7/10)

Suggestion: This is something I would suggest to someone lost for ideas for date night, it is full of heart break but they story is so very touching. (Date Night)

Best Part: Landon and Jamie’s first date.

Favourite Quote: Landon ‘Our love is like the wind, I can’t see it but I sure can feel it.’

Trivia: Shane West bought the car he uses in the film.

Oscar Chances: No

Chances of Sequel: No

Overall: A tragic love story that will pull some heart strings, bring the tissues.

Wonderful, Relaxing Game
A friend suggested Stardew Valley to me because I love the Harvest Moon game series. I was hooked in right away. I chose my farm (you can choose from five different farms) and went from there. It was very easy to get into and the characters in the game are interesting. It is so clear where the nods to Harvest Moon are, but it is also its own thing too. I love that I don't have to just farm, I can fight monsters in the mines, or go fishing. You can make friends with the villagers and you can romance the available love interest of your choice. I also loved the festival days you can attend in the game because they are so much fun. I just wish the days weren't 24 hours, because they go by very quickly and sometimes it feels like there isn't enough time to do everything. It definitely makes you plan out your days however, so you have to think carefully about what you want to do and who you want to romance. I'm on my second playthrough of the game with a different farm and I'm still enjoying it and having so much fun with it. Stardew Valley is a great chill out game that offers a lot of fun.

Maybe you picked this up because you watched Buffy that one time and wanted to know what that red-headed chick who wasn't Willow was all about… or more likely, you are a fan of one of her many endeavors (and why shouldn’t you be?). She is a super-hardworking person who seems to be doing what she loves, and in my humble opinion, completely killing it. She shares her awkwardness and how even she fangirls when meeting famous people she loves.

How can I describe this book? Imagine talking to your best friend about everything in your life: your childhood, your hopes and fears, and most importantly all things geeky (comics, video games, and the internet). That is how I felt when I was reading this book. Yes, I was a fan of Felicia’s already but reading this book felt more like talking to your best friend than some impersonal narrative that you just picked up off the shelf at random. Felicia is witty, funny, and down to earth. (A bit neurotic, her words, but we still love her for it.) Her candor is endearing and makes the book incredibly relatable. Her love of video games, comics, crafting and just the simple art of creating definitely speaks to her readers (I know I definitely relate). Plus, the pictures peppered throughout are just adorable.

She took her life into her own hands and with an incredible amount of hard work, created Geek & Sundry. She filled the book with her life and quite a few really good pieces of advice (as well as motivational phrases). As I sit here in my exploding TARDIS skirt (thank you mom for helping me make it), embracing my quirkiness and inner geek, I hope Felicia would be proud. I hope that people are inspired by her book, like I am inspired and take a chance. Do what they love.

Check out all of her projects with Geek & Sundry, as well as past projects like my love Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, the show that started it all the Guild and her appearances on Supernatural! And if anyone could get me a signed copy of her book, I would love you forever. I take my book collection very seriously and would love to have this sitting on my shelf (rather than residing digitally in the nethersphere of my kindle.) Random fun fact, one of my exes and I used to sing My Eyes. I, of course, sang Penny’s part (and when I was alone I would also be Dr. Horrible, duh). It was my favourite song from the show and I’m still obsessed with it. I also found it on Sing (karaoke app, I spend too much time on there) just so that I could record it as a duet (and then sing both parts because why not?). Enough about me, go buy her wonderful book immediately and read it.
