I started reading this book because I have watched the series on SyFy and fell in love. This book is much darker than the show (if that's possible) and felt a little slower just because there was more information in the book than there is in the show.

Some of the characters are different, same with the plot points, but I enjoyed it. Was it my favorite book of all time? No. But it was good. It is a fantasy book, magical realism set in the real world and a fictional one, but it was so well written you felt like it was all real. I wish there would have been more focus on the school itself and how they were learning, but speaking from experience, I understand that can be both boring and difficult to write. So I completely understand the lack.

Quentin is an asshole. I think we can all agree to that. But because he is an asshole, I trust him as a narrator that much more. He is self involved and wants whatever he wants and nothing will sway him from that (for the most part) but I still care about him. Not as much as I care about Elliot and Janet (who is Margot in the show). I love these two to no end. There were new characters that I didn't know in the books because they weren't in the show. I liked them. I think they added another bit of depth we didn't get in the series. I liked seeing more students than the like six we get in the show.

I liked the book overall and I plan to read the other two. If you are a fan of the show, pick these up. They're different enough to give more context into the inner workings of the characters that I think is a great addition if you are familiar with the show.

I know I should have started with the books, then watched the show, but I didn't know there were books until after I watched the first two seasons, so yeah.

Do you get turned on after being in a car crash?
Contains spoilers, click to show
The people in this movie do and it pretty messed up. I love David Cronenberg and all his body horror films and also the deeply provocative and sometimes controversial subject matter in his films; however, this one seemed just a bit too random and out there for me.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a great steamy sex scene in a film as much as anyone, but this movie seemed like a never-ending stretch of handjobs and random nastiness for no reason whatsoever.

The characters were not even that interesting in that all they wanted to do was grope, suck and fuck each other just for the turn on of being around a crashed car and that didn't really make any sense.

Do yourself a favor and watch Naked Lunch or Videodrome instead.

"This is almost Devendra's Exile On Main Street. There's gospel singers on the song 'Saved', there's a song called 'Shabop Shalom' which is a satirical bar mitzvah song that he performs like Elvis. It has an epic jaw-dropping song called 'Seahorse' which alternates between psychedelic parts and jazz parts, a fuzzy roving ballad called 'So Long, Old Bean'. There's so much on it and I love that. Devendra was my neighbour in Brooklyn many years ago, and it was cool watching him become a superhero version of himself. He had that kind of bravery before almost anyone I knew, to embody their personal expression in this world. Devendra is a next-level master at combining musical, visual, and poetic aesthetics. For me he is a personal hero, his work is a benchmark of how much of your brain you can get out there it. We were born a few days apart, so we are really connected as peers."

Potentially intimidating to new players
Love Lovecraft? Love This!
Cthulhu Wars is a game where players take on the role of some squamous and tentacular entity from the depth of Earth's history, striving to enter the world again and wreak untold havoc. The aim of the game is to collect six spellbooks, that each gives a power related to your faction and end the game with the highest number of Doom.

The collection of spellbooks leads to an asymmetric play style, where each faction has to achieve specific things in order to be able to meet the criteria for winning. At the same time, players are trying to thwart each other and ensure that no one makes it too far ahead.

There is a lot of like about Cthulhu Wars. The minis are spectacular and massive. There is nothing quite like picking up a large handful of Nyarlothotep and hearing the satisfying thunk as you move to a new location.

Players with experience playing the game with the various factions will have a clear advantage over players who are just starting out as they have some insight into how their opponents work but with a few games, most of the basic strategies become clear enough.

An impressive game to play that sticks close to the source material and delivers on the quality of the components. It is well worth your time to take a look and sit in one a game.

I don't even know what to say. I love watching Law & Order: SVU, more so than any of the other Law & Orders (if that tells you how messed up I am), so reading With Visions of Red felt like an episode wrapped up into a book. I kind of love that fact - I have yet to experience L&O through my favorite form of consumption: literature. I chose to download the free version offered through Amazon because I assumed it had to do with BDSM, which can be just as good a romance story as any other. Obviously I was way, way wrong. I don't feel a need to complain though. Despite this book being so different from what I usually read, I really enjoyed it... I guess that's sick and twisted, but whatever. I have, thankfully, never experienced the horrors and terrors that Sadie has. I couldn't even begin to imagine the darkness that tries to claw its way to the surface, considering her line of work. It's interesting to see how she thinks and feels, how she deals with her past and reigns it in before it can obscure her present. For me, like I said before, a book of this nature is a first, so it was refreshing in a dark and twisted way. Honestly, I look forward to reading the whole series to discover not only who the unsub is or what happened to Colton in the past, but to see if two broken and destroyed souls can come together and become whole.
