Phillip McSween (751 KP) rated Logan Lucky (2017) in Movies
Dec 7, 2017
Sleeper
If you are looking for a movie that checks all the boxes, Logan Lucky is the one. I LOVE finding gems like these. Sleepers. Sure you can see movies like Logan and War For the Planet of the Apes coming from a mile away. You expect them to be great It's films like Logan Lucky, however, that keep the movie calendar refreshing.
Just fired from his job and trying to make enough money to take care of his daughter, Jimmy Logan (Channing Tatum) devises a plan to rob the Coca-Cola 600 race at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Tatum is awesome in his role, but has a great deal of help from a star-studded the cast the likes of Daniel Craig, Adam Driver, and Katie Holmes. With too many hilarious moments to count and an overly lovable protagonist who you can't help but root for, Logan Lucky is one of the year's best.
In 2007, I saw a movie called Stardust that surprised the heck out of me by how good it was. I mean, the film just came out of nowhere but I couldn't have been happier that I saw it. Logan Lucky gives me the exact same vibe. I give it a very solid 97.

graveyardgremlin (7194 KP) rated Fortune's Fool (Five Hundred Kingdoms, #3) in Books
Feb 15, 2019
As much as I enjoyed the previous two books, I think that this is my favorite of the three. But maybe if I read the others again, I'd change my mind - each time I read one of them! :P Again the book is much better than the synopsis on the book has you believe - they're always a bit misleading or incorrect.
The characters and settings just came to life and the love story was lovely between Katya and Sasha. Yes, the love scene didn't seem like it fit into the book, but the rest was so great I'll forgive that part. The secondary characters just added to the whole story, and I wish that I could visit with them again, even though I know it'll be a different kingdom in the next book. Oh well, I'm sure I'll love any book that Ms. Lackey writes in the Five Hundred Kingdoms Series. :)

Lumos (380 KP) rated Bellabeat Leaf in Tech
May 11, 2018
I LOVE my Leaf by Bellabeat. I wear it everyday- mostly as a bracelet but I have worn it as a necklace or clipped to my clothing. I love the sleek design. So many people notice and compliment it.
Like most fitness trackers, the Leaf monitors your steps, and sleeping patterns. You can use the app to track your water intake, meditation, and also monthly cycle. The app uses the information you input and creates a "stress readout" depending on what you have going on in which areas. I love that I can easily track these things and look back on past weeks to determine any patterns.
Unlike other fitness trackers, there is no screen on the Leaf. I know this bothers some people, but I am not using the Leaf as a Smart Watch. I like that I can check it on my phone and I'm not constantly updating things on my wrist all day. I check it once or twice a day and for the most part, I forget about it. It is not distracting to me in any way.

Veronica Pena (690 KP) rated To All the Boys I've Loved Before in Books
Jan 19, 2020
I have never in my life finished a book in one night and I read this entire novel in one sitting. As soon as I picked it up, I couldn't put it down. I love the way it was written, the characters, the plotline is so fresh, unlike anything else, this novel is amazing. I am seriously so shocked.
I think what makes this book so great is how real it is. I remember being 16, Lara Jean's age, and falling in love for the first time and what that felt like and how it kind of creeps up on you and then all at once, it just is there and it's all-consuming and this thing you can't run away from. I felt that in Lara Jean and Peter. I also think the hard part about writing a book as an adult that is about teenagers is that you can lose that feeling. You can forget what it feels like to be that age, to live in those moments, to have those feelings. I don't feel like that with this novel. It feels very real and very true. It's definitely a story that can take place in almost any time, which I really love. Obviously, if it was a pre-cell phone time, texting wouldn't be there, but other than that, it's definitely something that could hold up and I think those are the best stories.
I thoroughly enjoyed the movie when I saw it the first time and I'm eager to watch it again and compare it to the book, but I'm even more excited to read the second book in this trilogy and figure out where the story goes next. I've managed this far along without having any spoilers of what happens in the next 2 books and that I'm very proud of.
Overall, I really enjoyed this novel. I think it was beautifully written, it's the perfect ending, or cliffhanger rather, and I think it's a true story about high schoolers and not one that is so far removed, it's hard to relate. I hope the second book keeps me as hooked as this one did.

Mark Halpern (153 KP) rated Hellboy (2004) in Movies
Jan 4, 2018
Comic to movie
A demon that is brought to life and then rescued from one the groups we love to hate (the Nazis) then trained with other mystical creatures to come fight the forces of darkness. Yeah it was good. It followed the comic pretty well as far as I can tell. Filled with action and good story line. Hellboy is a fun flick to watch if you like comics.
