Dana (24 KP) rated We Were Liars in Books

Okay, I really wanted to love this book. There were so many people who said that it was amazing and I got my hopes up. Though I generally enjoyed the book, there were parts that didn't seem to fit for me. Even the mysterious parts, I caught on to almost too soon. It made me not really want to finish it because there was nothing to figure out anymore.
I am not saying, in any way, that you should not read this book. It was interesting, the characters were pretty cool, and it was a really fast read. Maybe it just wasn't for me. I still enjoyed reading it. If you like mysteries, quick reads, and like to contemplate stuff, pick up this book.
Please, do not use this review as a sole judgement on whether you should read this book or not. Mine is the only review that I have personally heard that did not say it was phenomenal. Go with your gut whether or not you want to pick this up. I still recommend that you read the book, if not just to see what your own thoughts on it are.
*****There may be some minor spoilers ahead, so you are warned!*****
There were a lot of really cool moments in the book that made me think. All of the philosophizing that the characters did that was very thought provoking and interesting. I especially liked how it was always about the four cousins. There is something in that familial bond that was really special to me, especially since I never really had that personally. I liked where the plot twist was headed. I understood it as well, but for me, I guessed it too early into the story. That just made me want to be able to find out why the thing happened. But, that's just me.

I liked it more than most it seems
The survival in the wilderness aspect of this film is what it does best, but it seems like I liked the developing love more than most people based on their ratings and comments.
Yeah fine no one wants the dog to die, but the movie was more than that. The Idris Elba character slowly reveals aspects of his personal like to Kate Winslet in a unique way. You expect them being found to be the end of the film, but it isn't and I was all right with that.
As far as the ending goes, there weren't too many ways it could go and the director picked one. Didn't bother me and I actually enjoyed it.
I also love Kate. Have since her "Introducing Kate Winslet" card in Heavenly Creatures. Make sure everone watched that too.

I really enjoyed this film. I love Taron Egerton quite a lot, ever since I saw him in Rocketman, and I think he plays Eggsy really well. I'm not entirely sure about some of the characters - like Roxy, I don't really know where her place was in this film, she just kind of felt like too much or a throw-away character. If she wasn't in the film at all, I don't think we would've missed her.
I think the plot in this film is rather interesting and though I haven't read the book, I would really like to. I saw the second film in this franchise several years ago and I remember enjoying it so I'm glad I liked this one and I'm eager to watch the second one because I know Colin Firth comes back.
I think the balance of this film is really well done - a good amount of action sequences, funny, serious, puts you on the edge of your seat, etc. I like that it doesn't lean too heavily into any one thing and I really enjoyed that there wasn't anything that felt just entirely unnecessary or out of place - at least that I can remember. I like that Eggsy is the underdog and that his road to the end of the film isn't as linear as you might've thought it would be at the beginning. I enjoyed growing with him and seeing him come into his own.

The endless all star cast! (2 more)
Great cameos
Cool sound track
A film to love
Possibly my favourite Rom/com and slight guilty pleasure. Ssh I even bought it on Dvd ;) The cast is amazing, watch it again as you have probably forgotten how many of the the lesser known stars at the time are now major actors. I like how it deals with all kinds of love and relationships that we can all relate to. A little cheesey yes but great fun and nice sound track as well.

Smashbomb Review
Smashbomb is a pretty cool social media app for entertainment recommendations. What do I mean? Well, you can rate and review all kinds of things like movies, tv shows, books and more; as well as discover things through recommendations too. You can also recommend stuff to your friends and follow each other to see what stuff they've recently reviewed. Find out what they love or what they hate, or what they really felt about a certain movie/tv show, etc.. You can even join "Orbs" which are groups where you can talk with other members about different topics related to recommendations. You earn points for adding reviews and rating things and even earn different badges for contributing that show off your status in the community. There's even a system of points called Kudos points that you earn for adding reviews and ratings and the more you earn the more you can give to friends and followers. These points are used to enter giveaways where you can win all kinds of prizes from Funko Pops, DVDs, table top games and even video games.
So in conclusion, I think this app is pretty awesome. I've been using it now for a couple of weeks and have really been enjoying it. It's pretty fun adding reviews for movies and shows I've seen, earning points towards winning awards and also giving points to other people writing reviews helping them get more points to win stuff too. And the best is just finding something cool that you haven't heard about before like a movie or tv show you were thinking about watching but weren't sure about. Because there's nothing that sucks like staring at the menu screen at Netflix/Hulu/Prime etc... and not knowing what to watch and just staring at that screen for 15 mins. Especially with things like fake reviews and trolls out there and paid reviews that hype up a movie that you wind up spending good money on seeing in theaters only to feel like you were robbed. It's a cool place to get some good opinions and if you get your friends to join or add in the fun then you will be able to see and share your reviews, ratings with each other and actually know who they're coming from.
