Rushed at parts and slow at others, but the story was there

I received the audiobook version of Blinding Night to read and review for my honest opinion.
I was very excited to read this as it was a retelling of my favorite Greek God and Goddess. I did enjoy it, but there were things that I was kind of so/so on. We'll get to that in a bit though.
Blinding Night follows Summer as she heads to Greece with her family for an expedition over summer vacation. Summer is not at all too happy about spending the entire summer months in a different country with her family while her friends were out having fun. But when Summer arrives in Greece, things take a twist of a turn.
She begins having visions and dreams of a shadowed figure and pomegranate seeds. Then the unthinkable happens, a tragic car accident. This is about the time when Summer meets Darce, a disguise of Hades. Darce then seduces Summer down into the Underworld because he believes she is the reincarnation of his long lost love Persephone. But they can't say anything because than Demeter who has been disguising herself as Summer's mother, will try to take her back. Which is not what we need, because that could lead to some very bad endings.
Characters:
Summer - the main character, a reincarnation of Persephone. Whines and complains a ton.
Darce - a disguise that Hades uses for when he's in the Human world. Supposed to be very dominant, brooding, and in charge, yet is not. Don't get me wrong, he was witty and seductive - which is honestly something I rather enjoy in the main man.
Morpheus - a very laid back character that I at first thought was more of a side character but he plays a very important role throughout the story.
Arae - sassy, snarky, the exact replica of a mean girl. Her snarky comments to the other gods had me cracking up!
Reasons why I rated it 3.5 stars:
1. The plot:
There were a lot of plot holes, at least that's what it felt like. Summer would do things that didn't make any sense and it just left me really confused over the entirety of the story. Some parts were rushed, while others were slow. It wasn't balanced as well as I'd hoped it was. When I imagined a modern retelling of Hades and Persephone, I figured it would have a bit of the dramatic, dark, and Gothic aura around the Underworld and Hades himself as is found in other retellings. Instead, I was left with sunshine and buttercups and just a small disappointed flare that raced through my body. Also, the part I enjoyed the most was the ending. That's when things actually started to get interesting. Chantal does not disappoint on cliffhangers, cause that was a surprise of a cliffhanger.
2. My enjoyment:
I really enjoyed the story as a whole and would reread again at a later date, but I just wish it was more fleshed out.
3. Character and story development:
There was hardly any character development and that made the story a bit dry. There was some story development but not as much that was needed. I found some parts to be rather boring because it lacked the spark of background that could have made this story so much better.
4. Grammar and spelling:
Since I listened to the audiobook version of the story, I can't say much for the grammar and spelling. I'm going to assume it's good and the way Chantal writes had me enthralled with the story.
5. The overall story:
The story wasn't at all what I imagined how the story was going to go. It was a good and very light story, but it lacked the intensity that comes when you read retellings of Greek gods and goddess'.

Bad lighting for interior scenes
All emotion was drained
Really wanted to love it
Tonight I watch both versions back-to-back as the original Eastwood version is one of my favorite of his films. This new version removes any emotion form most of the characters and situations and leaves us nothing to replace it. I don't mind if the movie is told from the "female" point of view, whatever that means, but the screenplay for this story still has to be interesting, emotional and intense and this has none. The actors (except Colin Farrell who is awful in everything) do the best with the material they are given; however, this more "sterilized" version of the story doesn't hold a candle to the original. I generally think Sofia Coppola is overrated as a director and would never have gone anywhere in Hollywood without her last name.

This novel tells the story of two families who become intertwined despite living half a world apart and without really knowing or ever even meeting each other. One is a poor family struggling to survive in rural India. The other is a pair of medical school students who meet and fall in love, one being from India.
The American couple end up having fertility issues, while the destitute couple in India are exactly the opposite. Not wanting to know her husband has disposed of another unwanted girl, the Indian mother smuggles her baby daughter to an orphanage in Mumbai. And it is there, where the American couple end up adopting her.
The story moves through the life of the girl in parallel with the lives of her adoptive and biological parents. In the end it is a tear jerker, but has a great message about who your real family is.

A space Titanic
This is basically Titanic set in space, albeit a much better film than Titanic will ever be.
Let's get it straight, this is not a full blown sci-fi epic. This is a romantic love story set in space, with some sci-fi elements thrown in. As long as you can accept that, then this is a really good film. Yes the romance part of the story is pretty predictable, but for me this didn't matter due to the sheer likeability and chemistry between Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence. They did get a great job of holding a film virtually all on their own, although Michael Sheen was a delight in all of his scenes too. The special effects too were very impressive and this is definitely one of the better films I saw in the new year.

This is a story about a horse named Frosty. He starts to have nightmares about something about his past. Though he does not know for sure. You learn about a great hero named Nightstalker. He starts to see images while riding with his owner. Frosty goes through life changing events that trigger when he turns two years of old. Is it about his past or are they bad dreams?
You go about and meet Nightstalker. His he the same horse that is know named Frosty? What is all the experience or images that hes see or dreams about that seem to come to life? Do Frost have memories of his past that is they get another life if they may get another life. Love horse stories this might be a good one for you. I hope you enjoy and this is a good story.

Such a heartwarming film
I really loved the book, and I’m so pleased to say that the film is just as good. Which if you know me, happens very rarely!
There are some slight differences to the book but nothing drastic, and all of the characters are in keeping with the book counterparts. Nick Robinson is brilliant and so sweet as Simon, but the rest of his friends and cats too are so relatable. Even the annoying Martin. And Tony Hale is a riot as the principal, and brings in a lot of the laughs.
This is a truly heartwarming, sweet and sometimes funny tale of love and a coming of age/coming out story. It’s a romantic story that manages to steer clear of the cheesy romantic cliches and this makes it all the better to watch. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t in tears by the end.

What’s not to like about Queen? Bohemian Rhapsody does an excellent job of telling a dramatic history of the band and its forerunner, Freddie Mercury. Rami Malek does an excellent performance. Parts of the movie are like watching a hilarious “How It’s Made” video of some of the best music of the century, parts of it are literally just watching concerts and listening to awesome music. Most importantly, there’s the story of Mercury’s evolution, which is a story arc any writer could only dream of: a British-Indian man abandoning his heritage, struggling to balance love for a woman with being gay, being manipulated by a manager turned lover, being scrutinized by the media, and eventually being able to be comfortable with who he is, all the while using his talent to push the band to create more and more musical innovations. It’s so good.

Detective Pikachu was one of the movies I had planed to see this summer being the fact that it is the first live action Pokémon movie.
I was highly surprised with how well the story was handled and how it maintained the main themes of the Pokémom franchise (friendship, love, and striving to be the best)
Though I do believe that the movie had the issue of thinking it needed to have its audience seeing something happen at all times such as having the Apom (Apalm?) attack last what felt like ten minutes.
I do think that the ending is satisfying with having the main character to grow closer to his father.
I do recommend seeing detective Pikachu expecially if your a long time fan of the Pokémon franchise.

Twists and suspense in each season and more to come!
I was a bit sceptical as I am normally for a 'who done it' series but I can honestly say I have been well and truly sucked in.
One of the best series I have watched for a while, full of suspense, twists and you can find yourself almost questioning what you would do in those situations. I love a book of series where you almost sympathise with the 'baddies' as there is always a story behind each of their decisions.
The law is the law.
Not disappointing in any way.

Spoiler: Theres a daughter.
I found this book at a car boot (flea market if you're American) on a school trip. It cost me 50p I believe and I would have paid more if I had known this would open up a whole new world for me.
This story is such a wonderful one, it's also believable. A historical romance I would recommend to anyone that loves that kind of book. Once I read The Secret Daughter, I went on to buy and read all of Catherine Kings books unfortunately theres not as many as I wished there were! I've read all her books atleast twice and this one will always have a special place in my heart as it is what made me fall back in love with reading.
