Mothergamer (1549 KP) rated Mortal Kombat (2021) in Movies
Jul 19, 2021
Lots of great action and yes it's a bit light on the story, but it's not completely terrible. It's a fun popcorn movie and if you're a fan of the Mortal Kombat games like me, it's not a bad ride. I did love Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion because he's a really talented actor and he made the role work for him. It was disappointing that there's some characters missing like Johnny Cage, but maybe we'll get to see him in the sequel. If you take it for what it is, pure entertainment it's a good film.

Leanne Crabtree (480 KP) rated Inside Out (Insider, #1) in Books

I normally love a dystopia/post-apocalyptic story, filled with engaging characters and an interesting plotline.
Unfortunately, for me, this one fell flat. The storyline didn't pull me in right away (or ever, if I'm being brutally honest) and I didn't connect with the characters or their plight to escape Inside.
I was just determined to not have another DNF so I persevered and finished it last night.
I've also tried reading one of the author's other works and I couldn't get into that either so I think this will be the last and only book I read by Maria V. Snyder

Huh...
Another great story but I didn't enjoy this one as much as some of her other books. I love ice skating, well, watching it on telly anyway, so I was excited for this. I loved the progression of their relationship and how she struggled to believe in herself and only really finally managed it after some stern words from Ivan... but there was just something missing for me. Something I can't quite put my finger on and made me drop it from a usual five star to a four.
I do look forward to more of Mariana's book though.

2.5 stars.
I thought this was okay, I liked the humour, but it also fell a little flat for me.
There was no real build up in the romance, it seemed to just appear when Gabriel decided he liked the smell of her and then they were kissing. Add in a sort of second love interest and jealousy was in abundance.
I can't say I connected with the characters or the story but I decided to finish it. The best bit for me was probably the cat-fight at the end and the guys' comments about it.

Kept at the edge of your seat
What an amazing book! Dark, clever and thrilling! My favourite read of 2020
I read this book not realising that it was part of a series but I felt like if you didn't want to read the books in order than you don't have to.
The story lines are different but same characters are used.
The chapters are short, but captivating
This book was an amazing read and I can't wait to read more of Cavanaghs books as he is now my favourite author.
I recommend if you love a good, dark thriller

Gareth von Kallenbach (980 KP) rated Home Again (2017) in Movies
Jul 11, 2019
A single mother, living with her two daughters in the sunniest part of LA is swept of her feet into polysemic ties between love, anger, confusion and men.
Home Again tells the story of a coming out and embracement of nostalgia through storytelling and friendship. The movie takes the audience on a ride through the typical life of filmmakers and performers inside the entertainment industry and captures the real life context beautifully through intricate directions in realism.
Whereas this movie this movie hits ominous tones of sad context, there is just enough comedic relief to make it a perfect heartwarming date night movie.

Andrew Koltuniuk (767 KP) rated The Two Towers (The Lord of the Rings, #2) in Books
May 14, 2020
The Lord of the Rings was my favorite book series growing up. I compare all of the books that I read to Lord of the Rings. J.R.R. Tolkien spent so much time and effort on these books, that is it is easy to see just how incredible they are. The Two Towers does a very effective job of picking up where the first book leaves off. I love the story as we follow Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli in their adventures across Middle Earth. Tolkien does a fantastic job of building the tension and heightening this book.
