For a start, it's an unabashed love letter to the Friday the 13th series, both playing tribute, and poking fun at its tropes. If you're a fan of summer camp slashers, then you'll find a lot to love. The comedy on display is decent and never feels too try hard, and even manages to lightly berate the horror fan community whilst managing to remain endearing.
Amongst all the silliness however, lurks a touching and often sad story about loss and coming to terms with grief. Fantastic performances from Taissa Farmiga and Malin Akerman compliment these moments, and they land pretty well. The characters are solidly balanced, and result in a movie that knows when to be funny, and when to be serious.
The Final Girls has quickly become a bit of a cult favourite since it's release in 2015, and it's easy to see why. Good stuff!

I struggled with this. I think it was because we missed the relationship build up between Gabe and Jess. It just started with them getting together and I liked to "read" it happen. From there I just sort of lost interest.
That was until the incident around the 40% mark. And it was Gabe I felt sorry for most, with how she pushed him away when all he wanted to do was hold her and love her. You could see and feel his torment in his chapters and I felt his pain.
That being said, I have to say I liked Landon. He was a cocky bugger, but we got to read about the build up between him and Jess, which we missed at the beginning with Gabe, and I felt sorry for him too, near the end.
I have to admit, I'd love to read his story when it comes out.

I find this house really interesting, it's on my list of things to do on a road trip of America. It's bizarre, and I love bizarre. Throw in Helen Mirren and I was going to be all over this film.
I did discover one thing from going to see this though... I really can't watch horror films in the cinema. I generally don't find them to be very good films, but that being said I do easily jump at things even if I know they're coming.
I love the idea behind it, and I thought the story was a good way of doing it, but the end result felt a little lacking to me. It does get some kudos for not being as predictable as some horror movies though.

The more I read the more I understood that things probably weren't going to work out well between these two. A (semi) retired assassin and the only un-crooked cop in the force? Hmm...
But lo and behold we have a new love interest! So I'm still pretty happy.
As for the rest of the story, I got dragged into it. I really wanted Gin to kick everyone's arses and come out on top and although it got a little dicey in places she did!
I'm off to start book 3 to read what she's going to get up to next (and hopefully she'll get a little hot and heavy with the new guy!)
