I'll start this off by saying that I thought Get Out was an excellent, albeit extremely messed up, movie.
This one just wasn't as good, in my opinion. Some of it made zero sense, which always irritates me, and felt a bit convoluted.
I will say that I was absolutely FASCINATED with Lupita Nyong'o's performance, both as Adelaide and as Red. It was worth the watch for her alone.

A modern horror masterpiece
I enjoyed Peele's first film "Get Out" and was expecting the same with this film but this was oh so much better.
Without giving anything away the film becomes at a steady pace, beginning with a flashback of nyong'o character as a little girl and then on to her as an adult with her own family as they head out on vacation.Once that fun day out is over then things take a sinister and nasty turn.
Fantastic performances from all but a special mention has to go to Nyong'o who is just incredible.A special mention goes to the use of the song "I Got 5 On It" in the film especially in a major set piece of the film.
An essential see for all fans of horror films.

Jordan Peele doing what he does best
I believe that Jordan Peele (one of my favourite directors recently) has truly found his forte. Successfully, he creates another amazing horror film that leaves you tingling with suspended throughout the entire film. The cast also have been chosen perfectly for their roles and the characterisation that comes with them, however this can only be done with skilled actors such as Lupita Nyong'o. Only problem was the tethered lady's voice which sounded like she needed a good cough (just joking ? ). Brilliant film though

Jordan Peele is a very good storyteller. Much like Get Out, there is a message behind the story and the film is filled with easter eggs and some pretty amazing jokes. I laughed quite a bit throughout. The cast of this movie is amazing. Lupita Nyong'o does an exceptionally good job. The lead actor, whose name escapes me, was playing a character clearly modeled after Peele himself which just made him that much funnier. I kept wondering during the movie, having never seen the actor in anything else, if maybe they had grown up together or something because he sounds EXACTLY like Peele so I did some digging and found that it was a conscious acting decision which I applaud. It was a good choice and he played it so well. There is a twist ending, however, it seemed fairly obvious to me very early on in the film. My only real problem with the film is how much is left unexplained. It's understandable given how the story is being told but at the same time it's a bit frustrating when the film ends and you still have so many questions!

Fantastic direction by Steve McQueen
Harrowing, disturbing beyond belief
It's taken me four years to watch this film out of fear I'd be seriously disturbed by the end of it. And no doubt it is disturbing.
The story of Solomon Northrup entails a free black man in America being kidnapped and then sold into slavery. He is gifted and educated, on top of having led a free life with his wife and children, hence in many ways it can be seen as even more traumatic knowing what is already out there.
What's interesting is the complicity of others involved, including other African Americans who have had to turn the other cheek in order to survive. The white men are despicable in this film, the brutality is truly horrifying.
It goes without saying Chiwetel Ejiofor is fantastic as Solomon, he's understated which makes his acting all the more moving. Michael Fassbender is particularly gratuitous in his role as a slave owner. Lupita Nyong'o is absolutely outstanding, playing a woman brutalized by the master for his own disgusting needs. The women go through a particular hell in this horrid period of history. You'll need a strong countenance to watch this.

Plot Points
This film was okay... That's about all. Nothing spectacular but its wasn't horrendous either.
The story wasn't overly original and the ending was a little obvious from the beginning if your paying attention and had seen films in this genre before.
There were several points within the story that just seemed a little... dumb... Like trying to reach for something whilst chained to a wooden coffee table and really struggling... Is the coffee table not able to be moved? It didn't show that it was bolted down to the floor or anything.
The one thing that was brilliant in this was each actors split acting... The two sides they were portraying.
Lupita Nyong'o was the standout here because I felt her two sides had the biggest contrast so we saw more of the two sides so was easier to see the contrast and it was fabulous.
Evan Alex was also amazing as both Jason and Pluto as I felt both his sides had large contrasts on character and showed off different abilities of his acting skills.
I wouldn't bother rushing out to see it at the cinema, but if your curious wait for the DVD.

Shes so cute tho...
387. Little Monsters. Nope it's not a remake of the Fred Savage 80s flick. Instead this is the 'Life Is Beautiful' for the zombie genre. And it was pretty sweet! We meet Dave, a down on his luck musician, broke up with the girl, band broke up, has to live with his sister and her young son. (Dave reminded me of a Andy Dwyer type, Park n Rec fans? Anyone, anyone?) To pull his weight around his sisters house, he takes his nephew, Felix, to school, and there he meets and is instantly infatuated with Felix's teacher Miss Caroline, with reason, she's played by Lupita Nyong'o!! One thing leads to another and Dave finds himself as a chaperone for the next field trip to the local zoo, which just happens to be next to a military research facility, which so happens to be suffering from a zombie outbreak at the time. As you may have guessed these zombies find their way to the zoo, and yep hell breaks loose. However, the kiddos are completely oblivious to this thanks to Miss Caroline convincing them its all just a game! It was a very well done comedy zombie flick. Rounding out the cast is Josh Gad playing a kids tv show host, he is great! Worth the watch!! Filmbufftim on FB
