You are always guaranteed a fantastic read from this author. This book has it all, blackmail, betrayal and flashbacks. This is a mafia second chance romance story. Each one of the books in this series just keep getting better and better the more you read. This is a quick novella but the author packs a lot into the pages. I can't wait to read more in this series and by this author in the future.

The Valachi Papers (1972)
The Valachi Papers (1972)
1972 | Crime, Drama
The Dino De Laurentiis version of The Godfather
Not really, but it was released the same year so it felt very similar in parts to the Coppola epic, just with a robustly smaller budget.

Bronson does a great job in his portrayal of Joseph Valachi, a mafia driver turned stool pigeon. He is intense and vulnerable at the same time.

Unfortunately, having been released in 1972, it would have no chance of finding an audience, but watching it now I found it to be very entertaining.

fantastic short read
This is the first book in this set but the sixth book in this series. This is a mafia story. This is a quick, hot and steamy, easy to read book which you will read in one sitting. This book has a cliffhanger ending so be warned, you will need part two as soon as you've finished this book. Amazing well written characters. I can't wait to read part two in this set.

I think this is my fourth book by the author and i know she writes some crazy things but i really struggled with this. I didn't get her justification behind the killing of the mafia guy at the beginning. Why not just hit him over the head with something hard and heavy? Why go hunt out the gun hidden in the apartment?

Oh, well. DNF @ 26%

I felt nothing for the characters or the storyline just because i didnt understand her reasoning behind the above incident.

Not for me.

Story: 22 Bullets starts when retired Mafia godfather Charly Mattei (Reno) is ambushed by multiply gun man who riddle his body with bullets, 22 in his body and somehow, he survives the attack. The man behind the attack Tony Zacchia (Merad) wants the job finished so he can take the control he wants over the business, while detective Marie Goldman (Fois) has her own scores to settle with Mafia who were behind her husband’s and fellow cops’ death.

Charly brings his trusted friends back together to go into a full-blown war with Tony which see the bodies piling up, until he can get his hands-on Tony himself.

Characters – Charly Mattei is the retired Mafia godfather that walked away from the business with strict rules on how it will continue, he gets left for dead by the new boss who wants to play by his own rules. Now the bear has been poked he will seek revenge on everyone who tried to eliminate him, no matter how many bodies get left in his way, he knows this is the only way to keep his family safe. Tony Zacchia has taken over the business, he doesn’t want to play by the same rules though, he needs to take care of Charly before changing the rules and after that attempts fails, he starts to throw waves of men as Charly to finish the job. Martin is the closest friend to Charly, he will help make the connections to who else was involved in the assassination attempt. Marie Goldman is a cop that lost her husband to the Mafia, she has wanted to take them down for years now and this will be her best chance after she get put in the middle of the blood war.

Performances – Jean Reno is fantastic in the leading role of the film, he brings back the type of performance we saw in Leon where he is the cold-hearted killer with the heart of gold. Kad Merad, Jean-Pierre Darroussin are both good in the supporting role, though it can be easy to mix the two up. Marina Fios is good as the detective trying to get to the bottom of everything with her own tragic back past.

Story – The story here follows a former Mafia Godfather that goes on a revenge mission against the new godfather after he failed to have his assassinated bring France into a battle for power between the two leading sides in the war. This does play out like a revenge thriller with plenty of bullets, we have seen this done most recently with John Wick and this follows the same tone and body numbers you would be seeing in this one. The added side story of the cop wanting to final takedown the person who killed her husband adds to everything making this feel like a three-way war between the sides. The does play out how you would imagine which is great to see and the story doesn’t hold back either.

Action/Crime – The action is brutal when it comes to the bullet wound, even if certain moments can become overkill when it comes to the bullets flying. The crime world shown gives us an insight into the world in and out of the world with people wanting out or control.

Settings – The film is set in Marseille which shows us a new type of city for a crime film to take place in, we have all the locations you would imagine for a Mafia film.

Scene of the Movie – Dinner meeting.

That Moment That Annoyed Me – Sometimes overkill.

Final Thoughts – This is an enjoyable action revenge thriller, that puts Jean Reno front and centre on a bloody rampage, one well worth watching for the action fans.

Overall: Enjoyable Action Film.

Some Like It Hot (1959)
Some Like It Hot (1959)
1959 | Classics, Comedy, Drama
Classic Billy Wilder comedy farce, starring Marilyn Monroe, Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis (doing his Carey Grant impersonation), with the latter two playing down on their luck musicians who witness a mafia murder during the Prohibition Era of the 1920s and hatch a plan to escape Chicago by joining an all-girl band (enter Monroe) in drag in order to escape.

Full of sizzling one liners/repartee such as:

"Water Polo? Isn't that awfully dangerous? "
"I'll say. I had two horses drown under me..."

(I think it was 2)

and who can forger the final line of the film ("nobody's perfect")!

The Lies are Pretty Big..
At the recommendation of a friend, I dug into this book right away. I really enjoyed the characters and I kept waiting for the surprise that was promised. Having read some of this author's other books, it did not take me long to figure out how the characters came together. I really enjoyed the story and would recommend this to anyone who wanted to get swept away in the story based on a PTA like group. Their original purpose was to improve the school, but the mothers become mafia-like in their power moves

When I first heard of Riverdale I didn't think I would like it but watching it made my head turn into a forever loving fan of the show. (1 more)
Each episode had gripping and compelling story lines and a huge lot of what if, what could happen and shock moments that I didn't think would happen
The last season that's out on Netflix has been a little boring sad to say with a possible alien story being brought into this. They can do better (1 more)
Also why is Hiram still a bad guy I thought he would of wallowed in potty or other mafia men would of killed him by now?

Total Mayhem
Remember when this series was a GTA clone, telling a semi series crime story? Some people say that Saints Row has jumped the shark at this point, but I still have fun with these games. If you are looking for a deeper, more serious open world crime game, then you can go play GTA or Mafia, but if you want mindless fun and crass humour and plenty of random violence, then you should pick this one up. It's essentially more of Saints Row 3, but with added superpowers and aliens. It also works as a satirical parody on modern video games and pokes fun at its peers with a wink and a nod.
