"This book has fascinated me since I was a child. I’m always dipping into it and finding new things. Some of his Anglocentric conclusions date horribly, but the material gathered gives a magical insight into the people that have populated our planet and the rituals we observe. The illustrated edition was a later discovery and it’s an ethnographic treat."

They have been calling this "Water for Elephants meets The Night Circus." Since I've never read either of those books, I could enjoy it for what it is - historical fiction, woman's murder mystery with a touch of magical realism. Middle grade book that explores the magical world and how good and evil are viewed. It is well written and both authors did a good job about blending the voice. As I haven't read Cassandra Clare and a really long time since I've read Holly Blake i can't say which style they lean toward, if either.

I received this book free in exchange for an honest review.

I love a well written fantasy novel which is what [White Hart] by [Sarah Dalton] could be described as. The story of Mae, a young poor girl, who also happens to have magical abilities. She hides these so she will not be forced to marry the prince. When tragedy strikes she ends up on a quest with the prince.

I thought the characters were well developed and the plot was good. There could have been more description of the setting since it is a magical land. I liked that Mae was not a weakling but she also lacked confidence due to lack of experience.

I have started reading [Red Palace] the second book which I also received free for review.

This book reads a lot like a fairy story, starring a girl who feels drawn into the magical world of the forest despite her attachments to the world outside. The writing style felt very lyrical, which seemed very appropriate for the story, and helped to pull me into it all the more effectively. Though it took me a couple of chapters to really get into the story, once I did I found that it was a quick read and kept me interested in the characters and what would happen next. If you're looking for an action packed fantasy story this might not be the book for you, but if you're looking for a magical story and beautiful writing this might be a good book for you to pick up.
