Beastars, Volume 1 was interesting. I liked it, but am not sure how the story will progress. It's a manga about animal students in a boarding school, and what happens when a tragedy strikes. The animal students are divided into herbivores and carnivores, so there are immediate issues at stake.

Nabari No Ou is a manga series about a middle school-aged boy that finds out that he holds a very sought-after secret power of a hidden ninja realm. While the book does contain some bloody and violent scenes, it also provides a look at school life, and plenty of humor. It's serious with a humorous overtone. The art is cute, and the book is pretty quick to read. However, you'll want to spend a little time studying the action in some of the drawings so that you don't miss what's going on. I wasn't sure what to expect from this manga, but I've been pleasantly surprised! It's definitely worth a read.

Volume 1 of Parasyte lays groundwork for the story to come. This manga series is categorized as horror, but it's readable. I think the next volumes will dive into more of an actual plot, but the first volume was fine. It just took awhile to get to anything beyond the very basics.

I love the entire Sailor Moon series, and all associated Manga. This second volume of the two volume Sailor V Series is about Sailor Venus, prior to her and Artemis joining the Sailor Moon crew.
The art is beautiful, as always, and the new translation (new as of publishing), is really good.

I know that the anime is popular, but I haven't gotten around to watching it yet. I wasn't sure that I'd like the manga, but I grabbed volume 1 recently, and was pleasantly surprised! I had expected it to be like a textbook cookbook type of manga that gets too into the recipes and ends up being boring. However, Food Wars is a good mix and keeps the storyline light and interesting. You're not turning page after page of the same diagrammed, cutely drawn recipe. The main characters do talk their way through their cooking times, but it's not overly drawn out. Some manga series have that magical "it" factor, and some definitely don't. This one seems to have it. It's cute, funny, has a good protagonist, and everything that revolves around him on the outskirts is interesting in its own way, as well. There's enough to carry an actual story, and enough motion in the plot to keep the action moving. Volume 1 also includes the short that was originally featured in Shonen Jump, but I'm glad the details were reworked. Overall, I think it will be a cute series.

Zo Zo Zombie is a manga series aimed at junior readers. It's full of silly, gross elementary school age boy humor. It's consistently full of that type of humor, so if you're looking for something for an elementary school aged boy to read, check this out. It's probably best for 4th-6th grade readers.

"Whoever it was who said “There is only Louise Brooks” was right on. With those sad manga-heroine eyes and immaculate bob haircut, she’s become like Marilyn Monroe for nerds. This film is as full of dread and emotion as any modern-day thriller—and all without the benefit of, y’know, audible dialogue. Spectacular."

I have not had a chance to watch the movie yet, which is on my short to-watch list. I wanted to read the manga first. However, without looking at the film's release date, I'm guessing that the movie maybe came out first? I don't know. I still definitely am planning on watching the movie, but volume 1 of the manga didn't do it for me. The first 3/4 seemed choppy and very confusing at times. It didn't explain what was going on very well. I know the basis of the movie, which is the only reason I read the whole volume. It was less confusing toward the very end, so I'll move on to the next book. But, I'm guessing the movie is a million times better.

Brightly coloured, well illustrated and action-filled this Manga title is definitely par for the course for this genre of material. A solid introduction which sets up the characters for the subsequent episodes. I would say to give this one a read if you enjoy, keep going, if not, try the next one. One of them is sure to fit your needs.
